Torture advocate William Haynes resigns.

Defense Department General Counsel William Haynes, who was a “prime mover” in the Bush administration’s efforts to bypass the Geneva Convention, announced today that he “is returning to private life next month.” Already a controversial figure due to his torture advocacy, the negative spotlight on Haynes increased last week when former Gitmo prosecutor Col. Morris Davis told The Nation that Haynes had insisted that the administration “can’t have acquittals” at Guantanamo Bay.

Lots more on Haynes’ role in the Bush administration here:

4. Returning to a place he hasn't spent that much time,
compared to his service to the torture administration.

Prior to serving as the General Counsel of the Department of Defense, Mr. Haynes twice was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Jenner & Block (1993-1996 and 1999-2001), where he provided legal services to corporate and individual clients. From 1996 through 1998, he served as staff vice president and associate general counsel of General Dynamics Corporation, and as general counsel of General Dynamics Corporation’s Marine Group.

After Mr. Haynes’ Senate confirmation in early 1990, the President appointed him General Counsel of the Department of the Army, a post he held for three years. As chief legal officer of the Army, Mr. Haynes was ultimately responsible for all legal matters confronting the Department of the Army, and for professional oversight of the military and civilian lawyers in the Department of the Army.

7. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. And do keep in touch since I still would
like to see you served with an indictment.

9. We've Got To Void Pensions For Governmental Crooks
at a minimum. For traitors, we have to do seizure of assets--just like the drug felons. This revolving door-get out of jail free spree has got to stop.
