| GMA pushing the Clinton/Obama/madrassa lie |
|
My officemate came in disgusted this morning. "Do you know who started that lie about Obama going to a madrassa? Hillary Clinton!"
Seems she heard that on Good Morning America this morning. I had a really hard time convincing her of the truth. I hope -- finally -- the debunk I found at Media Matters convinced her.
Sheeze.

as I do nearly every morning and that was NOT what was reported. What was reported, correctly I may add, was that the Fox report was taken from the Insight magazine and that GMA indicated that the magazine is a conservative publication. GMA also reported the magazine claimed the information about Sen. Obama's schooling came from the Clinton campaign.
GMA went to the school in Indonesia and, like CNN before it, showed it as a regular public school and not a madrassa. Moreover, GMA did point out that the Clinton campaign vehemently denies being the source to this obviously and patently false story, which Fox is still perpetrating.
I think that your co-worker hear what s/he wanted to hear or regurgitated information from some RW talking head.

| 12. My coworker must have been mistaken |
|
My op specifically said that the Clinton connection was a lie. I also added that I debunked it. So, I haven't told any lies about Clinton.
It's also not a lie that my coworker told me this. I'll report back to her that GMA didn't say this.
I don't really see that I need to delete this as I haven't misrepresented anything. I'm extremely grateful to hear that GMA didn't say this. That's one reason I posted here. I can now fully convince her that the claim is utterly bogus.

Your OP should be deleted.

|
I think I clearly stated that the stories about both Obama and Clinton were lies. I honestly don't care about the tender sensibilities of a show that just hired Glen Beck. I watch the ABC news and often defend it and Gibson here.
That's all I have to say on the subject. If you want my post deleted, I suggest you alert the mods. If I've violated a DU rule, they'll delete my post with my blessings.

| 2. Ask her who was the person on GMA ... |
|
Glen Beck is making appearances on there and he's whoring it. Or Mark Halperin, who thinks ABC isn't conservative enough.

"Do you think Hillary would be stupid enough to release an obviously disprovable lie that could be traced back to her?"
This is the perfect twofer lie. The first blow is against Obama, the second - and more lasting - is against Hillary.

|
She really should not be alone on debunking this OP.
- I saw and heard it too, exactly as Sapphire Blue describes it. What is wrong with you people?
I know it was ABC, which is one reason I couln't believe how strongly they lit into FOX and the source, practically calling them liars and propagandists. They also showed Clinton people denying having started it.
This is over the top, for people to be ignoring two people - me and Sapphire Blue - who actually saw the thing and jumping up and down over some second hand story that is totally incorrect.
Wat.

I'm at work and don't check DU every minute.
I've now totally disabused my coworker of this lie. And thanks to everyone who pointed out GMA didn't say this.

|
I initially clicked on this thread because I also watched GMA this AM, and the OP's subject line was a complete lie. As NYCparalegal had already pointed that out, I wanted to draw attention to that.
I, too, was surprised at how Charlie Gibson lit into FOX! :toast: to Charlie!
And  to the OP for the lying subject line.

This is the nature of sound bites and spin and lies.
This is what the voters remember when it is time to cast a vote. And, sadly, the more there are denies, the more the topic remains hot and some would conclude that "there is no smoke without fire."
I am afraid that Obama's chances for 2008 are doomed.
Sometimes later this year, he will have to conduct his own polling finding what people are thinking about him.

to be "doomed"? Most people don't even know him yet — and I predict that as they get to know him, his poll numbers will get even higher.

American, I don't think Obama is doomed. They should have waited to play this card. Two years from now they'll either have to replay the card or draw something new from the deck.

| 22. I don't know about that. I watched GMA this morning and |
|
they did a great job of debunking the story and calling it a lie akin to the Swift Boat mess.
They laid the blame squarely at the feet of Fox and Rush, as a matter of fact.

I guess my tinfoil hat does not fit right and I rather like the kool-aid but I just cant put it out of my realm of possibility that Clinton may have been connected to this, but thats just me.
