how could this possibly work? Are they registering approval of what the candidate is saying? How do you read that in real time. Seems pretty bogus to me.

I'm not sure if they are undecideds or not, but they have a little dial that they turn one way if they like the answer and another way if they don't. It gets recorded and displayed in real time.

Members of the audience are given raters that they turn up and down according to how they feel about what is being said. It is in real time.
