| Rep. Louise Slaughter of Rochester might be a good replacement for Hillary in the Senate. |
|
A progressive female from Upstate. Why is no one mentioning her? Or are they?

| 6. Here in NY, Andrew Cuomo is being mentioned. Cuomo is said to be a possible candidate |
|
for Governor in the next election. If Paterson wants to the hold the position, it's said he might name Cuomo, to get him out of the picture.

|
He is also involved with Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac in the past and not in a good way, no?

he is not as visible as Spitzer was.

|
Some have mentioned her,but the fact that she'd be 82 at the time of the 2010 election and 88 when that term ended, is a pretty strong argument against her. The prospect of getting someone in that seat who can hold it for multiple terms, earning seniority, is not to be tossed away lightly.

I've always thought she was in her sixties. Maybe I wasn't looking too closely.

| 15. I agree, but realistically, she isn't likely to be a multi-term senator |
|
Three-quarters of the US Senate is under 70 and only four are over 80.

| 4. Except from DU, here on NY news, the only other person that has been mentioned |
|
besides Caroline Kennedy is our AG, Andrew Cuomo.
Louise is wonderful but might be too old.
Another thing...whoever gets the seat has to have the ability to build a war chest against a Repuke contender in 2010 and 2012. I don't think Louise has that popularity.

| 16. I have seen her mentioned, however the MAIN thing on DU |
|
lately has been threads started blasting Ms Kennedy as inexperienced and a lousy person, after all she is one of those "Kennedy's" and remember Chappaquidick (for no reason I can see)...that has been ruling here. very very few if any threads started supporting her, just slamming her for no real reason. Mostly trolls it seems from freeperland salivating to attack teddy again but only have her to abuse. of course it is recalled later as "lots of threads and discussion about her" glossing over the fact it has been (IMO anyway) about 95% negative towards her.

| 20. I can't understand all the vitriol directed at her here, especially when there was so much |
|
excitement when she came out to very publicly endorse Obama.
She is an accomplished woman in her own right, never a personal scandal, and the work she did for the NYC School system won me over to her a few years ago.

I'm turned off by the way they're talking about this seat as family property. But we could do worse.

She will also be a fundraising goldmine.

|
in our state. I adore him but he has no chance.
Remember too, a lot of money is going to be needed to hold the seat in 2010 and 2012, and Hinchey won't be able to generate it.

Hinchey is 70. One important consideration in naming a replacement Senator is their ability to serve multiple terms and build up seniority. If Hinchey ran and was elected to a full term in 2010, he'd be 78 at the end of that term. There are currently only 5 Senators, out of 100, that are 78 or older.
