| Is the Republican Party really this stupid? |
|
On one hand, they've got Ken Blackwell running to be the chairman of the RNC, and he's promising to make government smaller by taking out of the corporate offices, but making it just small enough to fit in our bedrooms and medical files (It's not just completely stupid, but Blackwell should take a look around, that's what we've been doing for the past eight years).
And on the other, they've got this...
"Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan issued a statement Saturday distancing the party’s leadership from one of the GOP’s best-known operatives, Chip Saltsman, who distributed a CD containing “Barack the Magic Negro” as part of his campaign to be elected chairman of the Republican National Committee next month.
Duncan, who has served the campaigns of five presidents dating back to Richard Nixon, is seeking reelection as the party’s 60th chairman in a hotly contested race that includes Saltsman and several other viable candidates.
Saltsman, 40, was former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s campaign manager during the Republican presidential primaries.
Saltsman sent Republican National Committee members, who will choose the next chairman, a CD by conservative political satirist Paul Shanklin, “We HATE the USA.” It contains the controversial track, which was popular on conservative radio. Shanklin’s Web site promises “absolutely the best parodies in talk radio.”"
We can never let our guard down though, no matter how many crazy people they let run their Party.

they are.
#1 on their precious myth list is that marketing gimmicks are a great substitute for actual governance from ideas and principles moderated by practicality.

| 19. Yes. You have to remember, they have only been losing over 2 election cycles. |
|
Substantial losses to be sure, but it might take yet another election cycle or two for it to really sink in that they risk their power diminishing to almost nothing if they stick to the same tactics and demographics.
2006-2008 is a very brief span in time even though the scope of the defeats should be very alarming to Republicans if they had half a brain. If.

They only seem stupid because we misunderstand their goals.
They certainly attract crazy people, but that is no accident. They certainly pander to and promote stupidity, but again that is no accident either.
The Republicans have been remarkably successful recently at achieving their goals and advancing the agenda of their clients - the wealthy and powerful few. They have been much smarter, and much more effective than we have been.
