Dont tell Congress the Economy is Collapsing

Dean Baker was just on Thom Hartman discussing this subject. Its a wonderful read.

"The latest mutterings from Congress, especially the Republican leadership, indicate that they still don't have a clue about the seriousness of the economic downturn we are facing. They are saying that they can't have a stimulus package ready for when President Obama takes office in two weeks, and that a package probably won't be ready until well into February.

This delay is inexcusable. Remember when the Wall Street boys needed their TARP bailout in the fall? President Bush and his crew, together with the Democratic congressional leadership, with a huge chorus of media cheerleaders, all told us that the economy would collapse without immediate action. That is almost true now in the case of stimulus."

I want them to carefully construct the next one, so the small delay isnt a worry to me.

However, when the Republicans start playing obstructionists for the sole sake of politics...then I disagree.

and congress gets a raise it didn't have to vote for. Was there a question about them not getting it? Getting what? They don't fucking care about the we the people that pay their salaries or vote for their lazy asses. I do believe it's getting to be time for the revolution.

on something this important, it should be made clear that any constructive ideas will be welcome but otherwise they can just shut up and go along with the program.
