Franken extends lead over Coleman

Democrat Al Franken today extended his lead over Republican Norm Coleman in Minnesota's U.S. Senate election, after the counting of about 350 formerly rejected absentee ballots this morning.

Franken captured 198 of the ballots, while Coleman took 111. The ballots added 87 votes to Franken’s recount lead, enlarging his margin over Coleman to 312.

The result makes it even more likely that, barring an unforeseen circumstance, Franken will prevail in the election lawsuit that Coleman filed in January to contest the Democrat's 225-vote recount lead. The three-judge panel presiding over the case has not said when it will issue a final decision.

Coleman will appeal the case to the Minnesota Supreme Court, his lawyer Ben Ginsberg said after today's proceedings. One of the grounds for the appeal will be unequal treatment of the ballots, Ginsberg said.

13. Give It Up, Norm...You're Done! You, Too, Dim Polenta!

I usually stay away from politics on my blog, but I've make an exception in this case. Today, the three-judge panel appointed to make the final recount final added it all up, and Al Franken is still the winner. It's over. Al Franken is the Junior Senator from Minnesota. It's time for him to take his rightful seat in Washington.

Of course, Norm Coleman is going to challenge this to the Minnesota Supreme Court. When he loses there, it looks like he's going to challenge it in the Federal court system. When will it all end?

Worse, our estimable Governor, Dim Polenta, is right in there...obstructing things as usual. Dim--you're an idiot. Do you imagine that this is going to help you in 2010? Do you not understand that Minnesotans are sick of this nonsense. We voted. More of us voted for Al Franken. He won. Norm lost. It's over.

If Dim Polenta obstructs the will of the voters of Minnesota, he will lose his governorship if he runs in 2010. If he decides to run for President in 2012, he'll lose even the Minnesota primary. Governor Polenta should announce that the Minnesota Supreme Court's decision will be final, and that he'll support Minnesota law with regard to elections and certify Al Franken as soon as the Minnesota Supreme Court decides that Franken is the winner.

But, Dim Polenta will not do that. To gain support with the right wing of the GOP (Good Ol' Party), he will continue to try to obstruct the will of Minnesota voters. Good luck with all that, Dim.
