| It doesn't matter one bit that Franken has won. Everyone knows that already. |
|
Including the Republicans.
But whoever it is that is doing their cost-benefit analysis has decided that the money they are spending on the delaying tactics is less important to them than seeing Senator Franken voting with the Democrats on the Senate floor. Some individual or group in the Republican leadership is playing a numbers game, figuring their advantages of keeping Franken from serving as opposed to money saved by throwing in the towel.
It is not an election year, and they still apparently have the money to burn, so the prospect of seeing that "59th" Democratic Senator--so close to a filibuster-proof count of 60--is just too much for them to let go. Never mind that with the Lieberman-Bayh cabal of "now-we-are-now-we-aren't" Democrats, they need hardly fear any ultra-progressive agenda being steamrolled through the Senate. They see another Democrat in the Senate chamber and their scream of "EEEEK!!" has more frightened terror in it than Betty Boop when she saw a mouse.
The Coleman effort reminds me of a schoolyard bully who KNOWS that recess will be over and he'll soon have to go back to class, but while he's outside, he'll torment as many kids as he can. It serves no purpose, but it makes him feel good.

obviously failed effort to retain his Senate seat, his related loss of a leadership role in the Senate GOP, and not least, the FBI investigation said to be swirling around his financial doings.

Eventually, no many how many barriers they put up, they are wasting their money. The opinion is the Minnesota SC will fast track this as will the US SC. They are only fooling themselves, setting precedent for when the situation is reversed and ticking off the citizens of Minnesota from what I read.

However, recesses do end.
This mess shows no signs of ending.
Someone needs to stop it, and now.
I have no idea who could, or how.

| 6. The Democrats should have had a PR campaign ready to roll out THIS MORNING |
|
to demand that the people's choice be seated.
If the shoe were on the other foot, that's what the Republicans would be doing. It would be the #1 story across all media platforms and we would be talking about *that*.

| 13. You'd think the "dignity" of the Senate was more important than that. |
|
When there was a conflict in one of our districts, Billbray was just seated by Hastert, effectively short circuiting our CA process.

| 10. I have an ugly suspicion I know who could stop it |
|
It's not a name I prefer to mention. His name is Rupert Murdoch. If he directs his media outlets (first and foremost FOX) to start saying that the fight is over and Franken has won, I suspect Coleman's people would give up and be home in time for an early dinner. It's scary that such a group of propaganda thugs wield such influence, but it appears to me that they do--to the point where Coleman's people would say, "well, if FOX thinks we are finished, then you know we are." These are people who think that if FOX reports that the world is flat, then all indications to the contrary are in error.

| 8. What Federal concern is there for it to go to a Federal Court? |
|
Elections are State functions and this last court case should be the final answer. I see no reason any Federal court could use to take this case on. I believe it is over except for the crying which Republicans are experts on.

|
The ONLY purpose of the Supreme Court is to establish Legal precedent and that case was so political they said it defied their very purpose and could not ever be used. No Federal court will take the case on those grounds..

| 18. At the Federal Level wouldn't it go to the Senate - not the Court? |
|
Remember that if it is the election itself that is disputed - not the state's ability to equally apply the law to all of its citizens, then I bleive the Constitution makes each body of the Congress the judge of its own elections. Do I misunderstand that phrase?
