| Barack Obama explains the appeal of marijuana to a young person |
|
"And if the high didn't solve whatever it was that was getting you down, it could at least help you laugh at the world's ongoing folly and see through all the hypocrisy and bullshit and cheap moralism."
-Barack Obama, Dreams from My Father, (1996), pg. 87
Speaking of seeing through bullshit, I don't recall ever hearing any other American politician speaking quite so honestly and utterly without bullshit on any subject, let alone the use of an controlled substance. It's astonishing that the republicans didn't try to turn this refreshing candor and truth-telling from Obama into the devil's own language.
Full disclosure: I haven't read Dreams from My Father. This was sent to me in an e-mail. I felt compelled to give it a post of its own because I was immediately struck by how much it resonates with me. I wonder if, in context, it's watered down with more typical politician-speak about how wrong he was or how high on life he is now. It doesn't mattter; this is a clear line of sight into a mind that clearly can see things as they really are and tell it like it is.

| 1. re: "hypocrisy and bullshit and cheap moralism." how's he moving towards sensible drug policy? |
|
oh yes, I forgot, he's not. Holder says they'll leave medical marijuana raids to the states, but Holder is a huge anti-pot-er. Speaking of "I cant believe the republicans didnt use this against him", check this out. http://www.aprilwinchell.com/2009/02/05/barack-obama-is-tired-of-your-motherfucking-shit/

| 5. Obama is directing Congress to move toward a sensible drug policy |
|
Like he should.
Webb and Frank have already taken the lead. If you don't know about their recent efforts you need to do some Googling.

Send the president some weed.
I think he could still use some help seeing through all that " hypocrisy and bullshit and cheap moralism."

the WAR on Marijuana. Stop immediatley arresting and putting in jail and ruining the lives of persons using and having marijuana for their own use.
STOP IT NOW
The United States Forest service, NEW MEXICO REGIONAL Office, has announced that, despite the 'end' of raids on dispensaries by DEA, despite New Mexico passing a medical marijuana law, Medical Marijuana Patients will be arrested in National Forests by USFS Law Enforcement Officers.
Judy Yandoh was the USFS Officialin NM who made this response.
