Mine is Democrat Yvonne Johnson she is Greensboro's first black mayor.She was previously a member of the Greensboro City Council for 14 years and Mayor Pro-Tem for 6 years. Greensboro is the third largest city in North Carolina. I think she is a very good mayor and will vote for her this November.

23. Same here. Daley gets a lot of shit (probably quite rightly) but I like him.

He's done a lot of good things for Chicago. I'm afraid anyone else would be much worse for the city, so I'll keep voting for him, probably against my better judgement.

I voted for the other Republican dude. He basically ran on the platform of keeping a megachurch off a rural road, but somehow still lost. He's a good guy, and my dogs' herding trainer.

There's just something wrong about a church that takes over a major abandoned complex and keeps guards posted at the gates. Not to mention that road can't handle the traffic.

It used to be Ron Dellums... and a more spectacularly un-effective mayor Oakland... well, ok... Oakland's seen some pretty spectacularly un-effective mayors. (Though, I did get the chance to meet Dellums before he became mayor, and he's a pretty nice & charismatic guy.)

We've had acting mayor Matt Claman since January. We had an election for mayor last week, but no one got the required 45%. There will be a runoff May 5 between conservative Dan Sullivan and liberal Eric Croft.

13. The excellent Mayor Jeff Jacobs

Mayor's Youth Summit provides a forum for young people to voice their opinions and discuss youth-related issues. As a result of the summit, school lunch offerings were changed, student representatives were added to the school board and youth now have voting rights on five of the city's boards and commissions.

Mayor Jeff Jacobs is a special advocate for the children of this city. His annual youth summit gives kids aged nine to 18 a forum in which they express concerns and dreams. As a result, the city has a new, free skate park, and students are more actively involved with the city’s decision-making processes.

In addition to the mayor’s goals, multiple initiatives see to the health needs of the city's children, providing free medical and mental health care, free immunizations to all school-age children, free or reduced-price dental care, and free transportation to guarantee access to care.

I didn't know either of those things when I voted. I think it is the first time in my life I voted for a Republican :(. Before the election I read some of his statements and Cahill's and Hallman sounded better. If Cahill's staff hadn't screwed up, Hallman may not have won (it didn't contribute to my vote - I was also new to Tempe at the time). I wish he hadn't.

He generally avoids the party except right at election time and maybe once a year for the J/J dinner and the state J/J and when Democratic Presidential candidates come to town. Definitely not a believer in grass roots - prefers the Chamber of Commerce crowd to our company from what I have observed.

18. Frank Guinta, a relatively moderate Republican

He's actually far better on environmental issues than many of the elected Democrats in Manchester. He tends to listen to some questionable advice, however, and seems terrified of offending the shriekier elements of the anti-tax GOP crowd.

He's not running for re-election this fall. Most of the potential replacements mentioned so far have been pretty underwhelming, to be perfectly honest.

20. Carlton F. Finkbeiner (D) for dumbass

Had a book of his blunders published. Some of the highlights:

* The book starts where it has to start, with Finkbeiner’s 1994 suggestion that deaf people should be located to the airport. There’s a key moment when Finkbeiner breaks into tears at a press conference addressing the national scandal, but then says he still intends to pursue the idea. This encapsulates the Finkbeiner Manifesto: My way, at all costs, with no compromise for logic or intelligence. (Got a mention on Dave Letterman for this one)

* The 1999 call for a boycott of Little Caeser’s pizza, because Finkbeiner did not like a chain’s owner’s plan to build a sports arena in Rossford to compete with Toledo’s. The local franchises responded by changing “Crazy Bread” to “Carty Bread” and offering a special on a ham pizza.

* The 2007 incident in which Finkbeiner parked in a handicapped spot and left his dog, Scout, locked in the car. Oddly, Murray does not mention that the incident was repeated shortly thereafter, or that it happened again a year later. Nor does the book acknowledge Murray’s role in working with Finkbeiner on the application for the “Most Livable CIty” award. This is my window of opportunity to make a comment about The Blade and its habit of selective reporting, but that’s another conversation for another time.

* The late 2007 incident in which Finkbeiner, when told Columbia Gas of Ohio might search for a new headquarters, threatened “World War III” on Columbia Gas. Oddly, Murray says, “The declaration of war worked. The company stayed put,” but there has been no such announcement from Columbia Gas, and there is no indication the company is staying in its current building. This is my window of opportunity to make a comment about The Blade and its habit of presumptive and sometimes erroneous reporting, but that’s another conversation for another time.

* As a side note, the Kirk illustration for the entry shows Finkbeiner riding a bomb like Slim Pickens in “Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” but that was the title and allusion of my column on the controversy, “Dr. StrangeFink, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Columbia Gas.” This is my window of opportunity to make a comment about The Blade and its habit of swiping creative ideas from its weekly competition, but that’s another conversation for another time.

* Here’s a fun quote from Finkbeiner to then-Human Resources Director Bill Logie at a labor negotiation session: “You just shut up. I don’t want to hear anything out of you or I’ll smash your face.” That’s our Carty, the subtle coalition builder. One of the themes of Murray’s compilation of stories is how many employees and allies Finkbeiner has burned through in his career. That trend continues today, as the mayor is on his third spokesperson in less than one year. There is also a disturbing number of incidents in which Finkbeiner swings at or smacks his people. That’s beyond uncivil; that’s sociopathic. D. Michael Collins nailed it in 1998 when he described Finkbeiner as “acting like a wacko dictator from some banana republic.”

* In 1998, since no one local seemed to be willing to send Finkbeiner a message, national consumer advocate Ralph Nader sent the mayor a bar of soap to clean up his language, hoping, “You direct your sneering, barnyard language away from corporate executives and their corporations and focus on the people you were elected to serve.”

There are pages and pages more, from customer service tantrums to a little episode in which Finkbeiner used the police to block a contingent of training Marines. (Made the National news)

He was elected TWICE. Toledo is $27MM in the red so far this year. He won't be back. Dems will probably never be elected here ever again thanks to Carty.

Weisner earned re-election with a very healthy margin against the Con and another council alderman(woman?). He has some Christian/religious-based things he's brought in that I'm not crazy about, and touted the Franklin Covey method as one of his big reforms...but, hey, when the only solution to the problem that the Con can express is tax cuts ad nauseum, there wasn't any question who I'd be voting for.

Sadly, we had a dismal turnout this past Tuesday. Even sadder, the local newspaper is giving high-profile to the "Tea Party" that's going to be held in nearby St. Charles. They gave that front page coverage in Sunday's paper and another invite in today's paper. *sigh*
