A lot of people won't even give Obama a chance - bad weekend

The criticisms I heard were mostly pure nonsense with a whole lot of emotion behind them.

Went to Easter dinner with the family of a friend. They are all radical Republicans. They were all mouthing off about the debt - said Obama was just dancing around all over the place. I had to leave the room and go help in the kitchen. If he walked on water it wouldn't be good enough.


Then this morning I went to eat at McDonalds and those people were having a fit over the dog. How dare he have a dog that chews in the White House. He paid way too much for a dog and now it will just destroy stuff the the taxpayers paid for.

Makes me feel bad.

1. Okay, please listen to me.....

1) There are some Republicans on DU stealthly here for the reasons you and I know so well
2) The support for our president is through the roof! He's one of the most popular presidents ever, and in a horrifically bad economic time inherited from the Repukes
3) Some criticism is good, and I think that by pushing our president to lean more towards the workers and the middle class, all we have to do is gain by it.

I love the man!!

4. I think he is at least trying to do something about stuff

Some of it may not work.

But I really think the economy is starting to get stronger. I can feel it. I think people are starting to feel encouraged. And that is a huge step in the right direction.

8 years of absolutely horrible leadership will take a long time to correct. These same people were all huge Bush supporters - until it got so obvious that he was a miserable failure. Then they just got really quiet about everything.

I am just hoping the economy will get better fairly quickly.

I think the Repukes have done so much damage for so long (30 years), that it cannot be fixed in a few months. Already, Obama is making sure things happen that reverse the Repuke damage and put in place things even other Democrats refused to do (Clinton).

6. I do think even some people here are needlessly pessimistic.

He really has done a tremendous amount of work in just the short time he has been in charge.

And it is so nice to be welcome overseas again. People in Europe - well just about everywhere - are just crazy about him.

read how beloved Obama is in our country and throughout the world.

They're grouchy sore losers who are resentful that our Democratic President is doing such a brilliant job, and they can't find one damn thing he's doing wrong. Unlike their hero, Chimpy Dipshit, who didn't do anything right, plus he lied about everything.

See, we're good winners, so feel happy and don't let those slugs drag you down. They're idiots. I mean, how bad is it when they have nothing to bitch about except a dog which was A GIFT from Ted and Victoria Kennedy to the Obama daughters? That's pretty pathetic, don't you think?

9. I spent this weekend with these types too...

...and it's taken me a day or two to shake it off.

I understand how upsetting it is.

I don't know if you feel the same way, but what upset me the most is how irrational and ignorant the arguments are--but
how emotional and insistent they are in their opinions. Never have I heard so much complete and utter insanity spewed
with such conviction. It's like they're brainwashed.

I don't mind arguing politics with people. Good debate is healthy. However, these people don't even make sense. Their
arguments are based on suppositions that are simply untrue. I think a lot of them get it from talk radio and Fox News.
It's as if these mediums have intellectually stunted them. Try and have a logical, rational discussion about healthcare
or global warming---and it's just not possible. The lies and the disinformation is just so deep.

For me--this is what left me gobsmacked. I feel for our country--with so many ill-informed, nutty people out there who
so easily digest pure nonsense. It's scary.

I do feel for you and I understand. Please know that it takes a couple of days to come out of shock, after dealing with this.

I feel better, and it's been two days. I'm now thinking that I need to have a strategy for dealing with this in the future--like
walking out of the room, limiting contact, keeping political discussions to a minimum, etc.

The GOP have had no ideas of their own except to cut taxes and de-regulate business; which has turned out to be a disaster for this country. So it's no wonder that they want to attack Obama for the most frivolous things while hoping for his ruination.

11. You know, the Roosevelts' kids got in a few early fistfights when they heard

folks making remarks about their parents on the train, etc. The Rs explained to them that they just had to learn to ignore ignorant and rude opinions like that.

We have to do the same here. I got to a hotdog shop that's full of right wing cranks. They're old folks and I just let them have their say. Time is on our side, so let's be gracious. They're on the outside lookin' in.

14. Whether Obama allows his administration to be distracted and derailed by daily public opinion polls

remains to be seen.

IMO Obama will give lip service to divisive, polarizing political issues as they make headlines but his advisers are savvy and they will select a very few, significant goals and pursue them behind the scenes.
