Just watched Maher's Religulous.

He's right.

Until everyone stands down from these old grievances, we'll never have peace and safety.

And the corporatists will be able to use our fear to control us.

He interviews the craziest of the crazies, which is a distortion, but it serves the purpose of exposing the magical thinking behind all religion.

Also, great footage of the new creationist theme park in florida: The Holy Land. They run a really gruesome crucifiction right amongst the "tourists." It's pornography.

But by the end of the film you see how everyone's "faith" really serves their own particular insecurities.

No one he interviews can keep up with him on facts or details. In any religion.

His mother is a pisser. It's obvious he gets his humor and his open mind from her.

Turning Atheist years ago was one of the most fundamental decisions of my life, but by far the one I am most proud of.
Life-changing, liberating. Freed up my mind to _reason_ . Like inhaling fresh air for the first time.

6. I was never indoctrinated, so, I don't have to rebel or reliquish rituals.

I consider that a great accomplishment for my single mother. Keeping one's own independent perspective on events and history is a gift, one many will trade for false security.

But I also believe most people are deep down good and trustworty, although, I've never had to work in corporate america, so it's a little easier to maintain that attitude when I'm not climbing the corporate ladder.

I still enjoy a truly faithful congregation that is not fear or guilt based. There are some wonderful church/temple leaders out there who really do holy work, but personally, it's not about any one book or ideology: These are just really wonderful people with endless compassion.

4. My wife bought his DVD, it has large holes in the plastic case, so less plastic was used.

We both enjoyed the movie, but the end was a little creepy.

beliefs are. They're nuttier than squirrel shit and much more harmful.
