| Anyone seeing the John Birch Society becoming more active on a local level? |
|
We're seeing it here in northern NH. One of the members told Mr Gray they are creating secret cells in small towns and becoming part of the political establishment. Also, they are being supported by Koch Industry owners who support a number of right wing causes.

They've had a local tv show from Lewiston ID in the past, but I haven't heard anything lately.

It is headquartered in my hometown. They are not terribly vocal here, though occasionally the newspaper will interview a representative for their outlook.

in the mail back in the 1960s and they were pretty damn scary. I thought they had gone the way of the Edsel.
by the way--my ex was an abusive authoritarian idiot

They were old farts when I was in high school, back in the early 60s.

| 9. Maybe I'm naive, but I would be more worried about the Know Nothing Party at this point |
|
Maybe there are still a few John Birchers kicking around, but I find it hard to believe that they have much energy.

Little old man with his sign. Asked me if I'd rather see jail time instead of bailouts for the bankers & Wall St guys. I said I'd rather see the money going to the people to pay off their debts which would work its way into the banks. He pushed the jail time bit again trying to get me say what he wanted to hear. I smiled at him and told him I'd rather see guillotines in the streets. Maybe he'll pick someplace less radical to canvass.

| 8. I think they are still alive and pretty active. |
|
If you dare, Alex Constantine keeps an eye on them and their offshoots.
I was expecting them to come back big time this year but it doesn't seem so on the first look. But isn't this whole tea bagging thing basically right out of their playbook? Not that they are planing it but they surely will notice that their market segment has stopped hiding in moms basement.
If you look at the RW conspiracy world, you will find them fairly active. Sites like abovetopsecret.com have user-submitted JBS shit on on a weekly basis. Go check out the google video counter for "the money masters" - allot of potential left wing dissenters in the Bush era were lured in by right wing propaganda and haven't gotten off it yet. To add my own suspicions, I think allot of what people like Alex Jones and Hal Turner say is actually JBS talking points. At least that's the kind of shit that is in their books.
I mean... think of the amount of people who consider " the creature from jekyll island " a historically accurate book. That's the work of JBS, I think they just stopped mentioning their names when spreading this shit.
