
Before delivering a fiery keynote address, H.K. Edgerton rounded up several of the children who attended the Confederate Memorial Day service at Forsyth Park on Sunday afternoon.
Wearing infantry garb and hoisting a battle flag, Edgerton knelt beside the smiling tykes at the foot of the park's Confederate Monument.
"This is the future," Edgerton said as parents and passersby, compelled by curiosity, snapped photographs.
The former president of the Asheville, N.C., chapter of the NAACP then sent the youngsters on their way and led an impromptu rendition of "Dixie."
