My mom is quite liberal, but it's my dad that's kinda conservative and watches Faux and listen to right-wing radio (I'm deaf, so I'm immune to bullshit), so my dad tells me that George Soros is anti-Israel. I said how can George Soros be anti-Israel and Jewish at the same time?

I also commented that Dennis Prager is a right-wing tool. (I know he likes to listen to that asshole, and he once met him in a symposium at a local synagogue)

So, can I counter this argument, or is it true?

AIPAC does not speak for Israel just like the GOP does not speak for the USA.

In my experience, Mr. Soros is, NOW, fundamentally, a humanitarian. He arrived at his humanitarianism after his life in capitalism. Unlike most capitalists/corporacrats, he has had and still proactively asserts a sincere interest and huge investment in empowering ALL people.

8. There was an interview from Soros

don't remember in what magazine. Soros talked about his financial career, his ideas of getting into politics (this was 98/99 or thereabouts), and other issues. He specifically referred to himself as a "Zionist" and even made a snarky comment about how he is an "international zionist conspirator" or something like that. He's not anti-Israel in the least.

As to how Soros personally defines "zionist" I have no idea :shrug:

Perhaps, if you are sincerely interested in knowing this man rather than exercising "a little knowledge" to reach judgment about him, you will at least do a little independent research on his life works over the years.

Mr. Soros deserves a fortitude of respect for the humanitarian work he has done over the years. I know NO other capitalist, former or otherwise, investing so much of their money and life into empowering people.

I was not criticizing Soros nor praising him, nor was I interpreting or making a judgment about him. I just read an interview that's all. The OP asked if Soros was anti-Israel, and I responded that I don't think he's anti-Israel, he called himself a "zionist" and I'm pretty sure that implies pro-Israel.

I read an interview by him and he clearly said he was zionist. As far as I know all he meant was he was pro-Israel which is *hardly* some controversial opinion.

Frankly, the basics of his concept of a democratic society are as close to my own as any organization.

What he disagrees (strongly, I might add) with is the aggressive, 'above-the-law' policies of the Israeli government,...he disagrees with this administration on the same basis.

I most admire Soros for taking his wealth to do everything possible to help humanity. He has returned to the roots of his own fathers' passions, in many ways. If I could live my life as I pleased, I'd choose a path similar to Soros.
