be prepared to defend yourselves from the reich wing.
I'd like to say its only a matter of time before they shed blood
but they already have
just ask george tiller.
these town hall riots are just the beginning. the GOP has spent decades building a fundamentalist domestic army, and now we have a black president who's a member of the democratic party for them to focus their anger and hated of freedom at. they have spent a generation building a movement based on hate.. they hate YOU. they hate me. they hate everything they can find that does not fit into their world view of dominance. just listen to what frank schaeffer has said abot them
be prepared to defend yourself at all times when around conservatives.
they will stop at nothing to destroy everything around them in their mad pursuit of hatred and tyranny.
they are the useful idiots of the new millenia.
"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks."

I've seen three or four flaky posts with this same theme. This sounds like the nonsense that some cut and paste from a certain conservative website.
There isn't going to be any great gun battle in the streets.
Find another fantasy. Get some help.
Go rent that old VHS tape where the Russkies invade America if you want to get your "Battle in the Streets Against Tyranny" freak on.
Sheesh.

Only this time its the Chinese commies launching the highly improbable invasion of the US instead of the Russian & Cuban commies. If they had started making the movie a little later it probably would have been Kenyan commies armed with "fake birth certificates" and health care plans.

|
Guns are WMD's? How about knives, or sticks with pointed ends (you know, like the heads of anti-gun freaks).
Just because a person is involved in American gun culture doesn't make them a Republican. It's an explicitly stated Constitutional right for crying out loud. Besides, you shouldn't be so quick to alienate those who not only are well armed but have also put enough rounds through our rifles to be able to effectively utilize them should the need ever arise.
And that leads back to the OP: Just like any other tool, a gun is only as useful as the person putting it to work is trained in its functionality. If you have decided that the ability to defend yourself is worth the money that a quality firearm costs you need to recognize that an equal investment of time is needed to familiarize yourself with the safe and effective use of that firearm.

Guns aren't involved with any particular party. They are inanimate objects. They are tools.
But please, attempt to explain how the French resistance was anti-progressive.

The Brady Campaign supports the AWB and then defines any autoloading rifle as an AW.
Their dishonesty makes them even worse than those who simply have an honest objection to gun ownership and violence in all forms.

your "honest objection to gun ownership" may be laudable, but not realistic.
if all the law abiders got rid of their guns, only the criminals would have them.
what do you think would happen then? you wouldn't last 24 hours.
that is yet another definition of insanity.
so you just as well get past that as an issue. and the republicans won't be able to use it as an issue.
besides, i think gw pretty much proved that they biggest threat we could have could very well be from our own government.

President Obama should do a relaxed room setting speech to the nation about the lies being thrown out about health care bill, or, maybe he and Michelle can do an interview with 60 Minutes and discuss the lies.

and we're probably quite a ways left of much of DU. I have a marksmanship certification but haven't fired a weapon since I got the certification 25 years ago; pretty sure I couldn't load a handgun fast enough to protect myself if I needed to do so, or whether I could get to the ammunition which is in a locked box inside a locked closet in time to protect myself. Both handguns were bought by my husband years ago; neither has ever been fired.

I always get a good laugh out of the fundies/right wingers who are so certain that they can "scare", or easily assault what they think are soft, non gun owning liberals, as though the right to bear arms and responsibly only is available to right wingernuts.
Hardly. Guns are a tool and not one whose use I'd ever take lightly (I don't take a chainsaw or knife lightly either, for that matter, or anything else here on the ranch that I've seen cause injury or death to someone). I don't go around showing them off to prove my womanhood (or dh his manhood), nor do I proudly proclaim "I HAVE GUNS AND I KNOW HOW TO USE THEM" in order to quell my own fears, nor have I ever used them to commit a crime. I use mine at home to practice or carry concealed as I've done for the last 30 years, or use when needed for a specific task (ranch related). All I am is a liberal leaning Independent, who probably appears quite soft bellied and without a clue to any wingnut neighbors of mine who doesn't know us well.
As for the few who know us a bit better - I know some of them feel unsettled by the fact that a couple of old lawyers about whom they made certain assumptions are not what they thought we were. Maybe they believed that only republicans could be capable of handling weapons of all sorts, and not be at all in fear of accepting some of life's more difficult responsibilities. Dunno, but the rattled look on their faces as they reassess us has at times been worth the price of admission.

The teabagger/birther/health-care-screamer movement is literally a fascist movement, and it's just molted into a bigger and more dangerous form.
Before, the right-wing crazies were just fringe groups, and the corporations and right-wing elites were pulling strings in our existing government.
Now, the right-wing elites found a lot of their strings cut, thanks to the last election, so while before, we saw little more than flirting between the right-wing extremists and the corporate money-men, now they're in open alliance. The health insurance lobbies are pouring money into the teabagging movement, right-wing radio and FOX news are openly promoting them, and the crazies now have heavy backing.
It's not just astroturfing anymore. It's the classic alliance between corporatism and right-wing extremism. With the big guns backing them, they'll get bolder - right now, it's disruption tactics designed to thwart democracy, and they're getting more and more violent. If things keep going, before long, they'll be wearing uniforms...

Just as I believe Universal National Service is a 'liberal' (NOT libertarian') stance, eschewing as I do anything that purports to be a "professional military." I think a close and thoughtful reading of Rawls' "A Theory of Justice" bears me out.
I guess I just don't understand the notion that we'd authorize government certain derived powers and deny those same 'liberties' to individuals. It seems to deny the sovereignty of "WE The People."

Those who do not read ALL of the 2nd Amendment, and interpret it as an "individual right" to bear arms are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own "facts."
Please, please do not try to convince me that carrying a gun makes ANYONE safer in this country. The statistics do NOT support that claim. Those citizens who are professionally armed (cops and soldiers) are killed every day of the week, 52-weeks a year.
As a former combat vet, I can guarantee you that one of the most dangerous people in the world is a fanatic with a weapon. The USA already has way too many of those.

Trying to get others on board their gun nuttery bandwagon. "Guns will solve all our problems."
Yeah, right.
We don't have guns in our family, and never will. No use for 'em. We're doing just fine, thank you.
You live in some sort of comic-book world, or maybe it's just the paranoid culture of gun nuttery.
