There was a time just nine years ago that the clock was shut down and the USA was actually paying down debt, under a Democratic Administration. Republicans have now made that task almost impossible. Definitely impossible if Republicans ever take charge again. Remember Cheney says "Reagan proved Deficits don't matter"
