That was DU in the old days. We disagreed with the other 90% of Americans, even the majority of Democrats. This was mostly right after the attacks of 9/11. We were not ready to give up and surrender all power to George W Bush. Many Democrats, especially those in the Congress and the Senate, were ready to do exactly that.
We endured. I used to post mantras about Karma exercises, as experiments in meditations, to help us through the rough times. After one such experiment, I remember that George W Bush almost choked and died on a pretzel. :-) We were definitely in the desert.
We have experienced a lot. These times are only trivial moments compared to the challenges we felt back then. Because if we look back, we have accomplished or have helped to accomplish, so much. We survived Bush and Cheney. We have a Democratic President and Congress. The people voted for the first black President, something many never thought possible.
Though the trail may look dark ahead, we have traveled a hard journey to get where we are today. Let us not forget that as we trudge ahead.

If he hadn't been such an incompetent, inarticulate, boob, our job would have been a lot harder and I'd bet we would still be wandering in the wilderness.

if not for DU and like-minded web sites on the Internet. I believe it saved us from a much more terrible tragedy than we suffered.

that started coming out after 2003. I am wondering what I am going to do with these political books that are history now. I need to thin my collection out.

The stuff that was being talked about on the DU, a couple years before it was ever mentioned in the news. When it did make the news, they acted like it was a BREAKING revelation that was so shocking.
The sad thing is that some, well probably most, Democratic politicians still do not get it.

| 7. but let us also not forget how many were so badly duped. |

I've often wondered what they were thinking. Honestly, Bush's slime was as evident then as it ever was. I don't know what the other 90% were feeling. Whatever was in that Kool-Aid, I never felt it.
