But whenever I see that Millais it makes me think of poor tubercular Liz Siddell lying in that bathtub for days. Curse of having had art history classes, I guess. :)

4. Many years ago I saw the most amazing film, "Dante's Inferno" -- which was a BBC production

about Dante Gabriel Rosetti and the Pre-Raphaelites, starring Oliver Reed.

I totally get what you say about Liz Siddell.

Anyway, as a long ago art history student, I'm delighted that *someone* knows whereof the visual...

6. Last time I checked, it was only available in VHS. I only ever saw it once, back in '67 or '68, at

an arthouse movie theatre that specialized in obscure foreign films.

What was most amazing about it is the actress who played Elizabeth Siddel looked EXACTLY like all the paintings of her! So exact, it was totally eerie. I'd already been into the whole Pre-Raphaelite art movement, so it was really mind-blowing to see all those characters come to life on the screen, and for the most part, the actors who played them LOOKED just like them. It's been stuck in mind all these 4+ decades later.

It actually wasn't until years later that I realized it was Oliver Stone playing Dante Gabriel Rosetti. I'd never heard of him at that time. He didn't stick in my mind until I saw "Women in Love" -- oh, maaaaaaan! If you've ever seen THAT film, I'm sure you know what I mean! :D

Cool, that does give me a time frame to look in.

We have a great indie/art/foreign movie store here which has a collection of old rare vhs, including a bunch of Ken Russell stuff that has never been released on DVD. So I'll start there. My son collects films and it took some doing to get a DVD copy of The Devils (another Reed/Russell movie)- we had to order it from europe or something as I recall. He belongs to some obscure cinema boards. I'll set him on it. :)

Please let me know (via PM would be fine) if you manage to find it! My old VCR broke down years ago, but I might try to find another one, if it means I can watch Dante's Inferno once more.
