DeLay seems to delight in deceit
DeLay seems to delight in deceit
By ROGER BUOEN Special to the Star Tribune

Tom DeLay, the former House Republican leader, has written what he pitches as a pull-no-punches, truth-telling account of his struggle to advance the conservative cause while in Congress. What he has produced is a study in deception, hypocrisy and excuses.

The trickery begins straight away, with the book's title. The man who retreated from a reelection contest and surrendered his House leadership position after he was indicted for political money laundering calls his political autobiography "No Retreat, No Surrender" (Sentinel, $25.95).

Open the cover and DeLay -- dubbed "the Exterminator" only in part because of his work in the pest-control business before joining Congress in 1984 -- portrays himself as the victim of his liberal opponents. He enlists the nation's arbiter of fair play, Rush Limbaugh, to join the refrain. Democrats targeted DeLay, Limbaugh writes in the book's foreword, because he was "hell-bent on reforming the House of Representatives in ways both political and ethical."

2. He's a Republican
Deceit is a prerequisite. So is playing the victim. Nice to read the thorough rubbishing of his book by the Star Tribune.

Welcome, LaStrega. :hi:

4. Thanks for the welcome! I've said it before ...
I'll say it again. I'm thrilled to be a part of DU.

And your "He's a Republican ~ Deceit is a prerequisite." literally made me guffaw. It's funny 'cause it's true!

As for rubbishing of DeLay's book ~ the STrib jounalists and editors (and contributors) tend toward the liberal (except for Katherine Kersten ... aka Katherine c**t Kersten), but management and our new publisher are staunch conservatives. The bastards.

Here's another tidbit from the STrib: http://www.startribune.com/535/story/1134466.html

There were IT peeps scrambling today to get the required items together. I also got to meet the illustrious Par today ... *that* was interesting. "Hello, Amber, how're things going in Prepress?" "Hello Mr. Ridder, nice to meet you ... things are hunky doory in Prepress (outside of the fact you and those of your ilk are attempting to outsource better than 25-jobs in Prepress)."

No, I didn't actually say that last part to him. Hell, upper management is looking for any reason to write me up for insubordination.

5. Republickers are the ultimate parasites.
They view lying as an honorable thing to do in pursuit of their nefarious goals, but, for once, Limp dough actually tells the truth:

"Democrats targeted DeLay, Limbaugh writes in the book's foreword, because he was "hell-bent on reforming the House of Representatives in ways both political and ethical."

And he did just that, making it the laughingstock of anyone with a near-normal sense of ethics or morals.
Republickers are not conservatives; even "conservatives" are not conservatives. They conserve nothing, burning through anything they touch as if there is an unquenchable supply, no tomorrow, and you must eat it all yourself, today, or the hated libruls might steal some.
