1. We admitted we were powerless over DU--that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could tombstone us at will.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Skinner as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the advocates of opposing views.

5. Admitted to the Magistrate the exact nature of their wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have The Admin remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Them to remove our tombstones and reinstate us.

8. Made a list of all persons whom we had put on Ignore or whose threads we had hijacked, and became willing to fake amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would entail inconveniences on our part.

10. Continued to take inventory of proponents of opposing views and when they were wrong promptly tried to make them admit it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with Admin, as we understood Them, praying only that they would forgive our ad hominem (ad feminam) attacks on other DUers and overlook our flamewars.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to the trolls, Morans and FReepers.

I AM addicted to DU (daily since early 2001), and the Democratic Party (42 years) despite experiencing serious physical and emotional unmanageability.

In 2006, my wife and I "gave up" on the "Centrist" Democratic Party, moved to The Woods, planted a BIG garden, and changed our focus to local humanitarian issues, and developing ways of denying funding to Corporate America and their bought politicians.

One of my vows was to spend LESS time on political websites, including DU, but THAT didn't happen.
The other changes are going well, but my BIGGEST source of disappointment and frustration these days comes from the time I spend at DU.

I may seriously try your suggested path and direct my focus to the things I CAN change.

32. DSM-IV was bad; some aspects of DSM-V are an abomination.

Some of the new Dx's (Hypersexuality, Pedehebephilia) seem to serve no function except to help justify "Sexually Violent Predator" commitment proceedings. The whole enterprise involves a lot of "medicalizing" of behavioral issues, forcing categories on continuously-distributed data, etc. It seems to be more of a political than a scientific effort.
