I'm American and I'm ashamed of my government because they have yet to do anything about DADT.

than himself couldn't allow a man to be attracted to another man. These cretins of society that abhor Gays, Lesbians, and especially Transvestites, are the worst forms of creatures breathing. From the torture and killings from Hitler, to the pursuit of nuts in the USA to start criminalizing being Gay, to those in Uganda trying to put Gays all to death - they are the stain that needs to be stopped.
Three Cheers for Alan Turing's brilliance and help in stopping the Nazis!!

they never contribute anything worthwhile to society. Inventing the computer? Outsmarting the Nazis? Blah, they all need to be CURED!:sarcasm:
In all seriousness, though -- it's things like this that make me ashamed to be an American. DADT is a disastrous policy that ruins lives... it should be overturned ASAP!

He killed himself by eating an apple laced with cyanide. A bitten apple is the logo on the back of your ipod. Apple computers get it why can't the military?

| 14. A Quick Google Search Reveals That the Apple Logo Is Not a Tribute To Turing |

Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 03:04 PM by Toasterlad
It's only an urban legend that the Apple logo had anything to do with Turing. And that's good news. Commemorating Turing's legacy by making a logo out of his suicide implement is in questionable taste at best.

Don't ask, don't tell, was created during the Clinton Administration and it was a HUGE improvement over what went before.

| 15. Given That Discharges Went UP After DADT Was Implemented, It's Safe to Conclude You're Full of Shit |
|
DADT did not stop the unfair discharges of homosexuals, and it did not stop the harrassment they received. All it did was provide a new legal weapon to be used against gays, while still preventing them from speaking up in their own defense.

| 17. Before DADT people were court martialed and sent to prison |
|
After DADT they were just discharged, but only if identified as gay. They no longer searched out and prosecuted gays. I would say that was an improvement but maybe you don't think so..

And both before AND after DADT, gays have been searched out and discharged. So no, I see no measurable improvement.

It did serve a purpose, protecting GLB people in the armed services - whether successful or not, I don't have evidence enough to decide. However, much has changed for the GLBTQ community since the 1990's. This nation has changed quite a bit in our favor. It's time for a program, which is shielding GLB people from harm to step aside and be replaced by equity for all American soldiers.
