As it was, the flashcards were teaching him words like "hijack" and "bomb" and "terrorist" and "explosives." That's what aroused the TSA's suspicions. Of a few hundred flash cards, a disproportionate number of them were just those words you're "not even supposed to joke about" at the airport security checkpoints. Now as it turned out, the student had a reasonable explanation- those words had been taken from newspaper headlines, mostly about terrorism, which the student had been using to teach himself Arabic.
