First off lose the slow blink when discussing his own past. Is it exagerated?
To use working in a nuclear deterrent role, and then speak of that in the way he did, sounds wrong or at best bad, find what you learned from it, not how some might think it is bad.
And that comment on soul? what was that?
Soft voice at end not best, nor expression. Own it. When you reach the part that matters, put energy into it, so it jumps off the page. Feel it and own it. Not with anger but with passion, that way the parts you want to accent actually are seen. By passion, it does not mean facial expression or tone, just add and have the feeling when speaking and the rest just happens.
Discussions on social justice, did not have concise one liners that jumped out, what did jump out was some idea of connecting negative armed service experience, with some social thoughts. A bit complicated at best, but not a clear analogy in the telling.
The arguments for choice, and tolerance, are best made without pointing out self righteousness of other people. If done in the positiveness of the reason. It seems to be better. If a comment like self righteousness is to be used, it seems better to say it as it applies to oneself. And I would speak of what was learned from those years on that job, and how it effected the person, not questioning if it was bad, or damnable offense, that was way out there.
For instance, "the reason I think and believe in social justice causes, and tolerance for people, is that it would be self righteous of me to judge another person, when there is so many things that still need to be done in my views of how people chose to treat each other.
No offense, but it is not that good in my view.
edit: Be in a good mood, when making such a video, and lean forward a bit.
Maybe its just me, but not a zinger, although I think I understand the intent of his comment, it does not work its way out of that message very well.
On a side note, the whole idea of people 'losing there soul' or 'Faustian deals' what I think he was talking about, is a trick to get people to think they are damned. No deal is more powerful then God's grace, the only reason dark side tries to say people made some deals is to get them to think they are damned.
It is a dark side trick to get a person to put a person in despair and fear. Most of that hype about Faustian deals is a trick used against people. For instance, how would you have lost a soul when you never pushed the button? Sure you were put in a position where you might have, but you never did, if anything, you were protected from doing such a bad thing. My point is there are lots of twist to try and get a person to think they are spiritually in trouble. If you can think on the topic, you probably have a soul. Although such things in a speech really sound weird. And if a soldier honestly thinks he is protecting and doing good, even when doing bad, his intent keeps him from doing wrong, and the fault lies in what he might not have thought of, or missinformation or lack of education on such ideas about peaceful conflict resolutions.
