SOUTH BEND -- A 20-year-old South Bend man has been charged with the 2009 killing of an Old English sheepdog at a home on Bonds Avenue.
Brett Shay Walker-Humphrey is accused of burglarizing Dan Warner's home on Nov. 9 and fatally shooting Warner's three-legged dog, Linus.
The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office filed charges this week after various people came forward with information linking Walker-Humphrey to the shooting.
Walker-Humphrey is in the St. Joseph County Jail for an unrelated incident.
Charging documents show he had been "bragging" in jail about various crimes he had committed, including burglarizing Warner's house.Walker-Humphrey allegedly explained to another inmate details about the Nov. 9 burglary, including the items that were taken (a laptop, television and jewelry), and the weapon that was used to kill Linus, charging documents show.
