2 Ark. Police Killed During Traffic Stop Of Ohio Van
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Authorities on Thursday said two West Memphis police officers were shot and killed by two men with AK-47s during a traffic stop on a busy interstate.
The two suspects later died in a shootout with police in the crowded parking lot of a Walmart.
West Memphis Police Inspector Bert Shelton says officers Brandon Paudert and Bill Evans were "running drug interdiction" on Interstate 40 in east Arkansas when they pulled over a white van with Ohio license plates Thursday afternoon.
The van's registration was traced to a building in New Vienna, Ohio, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.
The Clinton County building houses a church, the House Of God's Prayer, McEntyre reported.
