| Poll question: Will the US be out of Iraq by 2012? |
|
"The complete withdrawal of American forces will take place by December 2011, the period by which the U.S. agreed with Iraq to remove all troops." http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/02/24/politics/100days/iraqafghanistan/main4825306.shtmlHere is a blast from the past, just for some fun: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-andrews/out-of-iraq-in16-months-y_b_161546.html

| 16. I would be pleasantly surprised if the US was out of Iraq by 2012. |
|
I remember the debate over the slightly different time lines presented by Obama and Clinton during the primaries, but it was all just a nice show.

| 7. If Gitmo's closure will require about 3 years or more |
|
then what are the chances that a withdrawal from Iraq is possible in 2012?
I'd like to think a withdrawal is possible by then but I have to remain somewhat skeptical.

I'd have to hope that things will change. But there is nothing to indicate that will happen and I've learned not to believe politicians that promise change.

|
Why would we leave Iraq where we have just built a bunch of very expensive facilities? We aren't going anywhere. We will change the name and say "combat operations are over," but that's just bullshit.

Our Forward Operating Bases are already being converted to JSS's (Joint Security Station), which is a transition period to turn them over to the Iraqis. I've been on a variety of FOB's in Iraq, big and small, and none of them are even remotely comparable to an actual military base. Also, Iraq is not... NOT a duty station. It is a deployment.

| 14. Are private security forces part of the 'American forces' you speak of? |
|
I doubt all American forces, private or not will be gone by then if we are lucky they might be removed from actively engaging in the campaign/security there but I don't think we'd ever leave completely. Plus all those American contractors out there making money, they aren't leaving, and they aren't staying without protection.

"President Barack Obama plans to order that all U.S. combat troops be withdrawn from Iraq by August 2010"
and then
"The complete withdrawal of American forces will take place by December 2011"
So there are combat troops, and there are American forces. The article does mention "private security."
