| 2. For less money and no pension |
|
Don't forget the "less money" part, because their whole system collapses if workers are actually getting ahead. Every extra dime generated by greater efficiencies and higher productivity has to be filched from the system and funneled into the overstuffed pockets of the fatcats. The workers? How about pie? In the sky? By and by?

Til, the old back gave out at age 49. Fortunately, we have a thing called "occupational disability" through the Railroad Retirement Board pension system.

| 5. Most factory workers are lucky if they live to 30 yr and out. |
|
This is one of my few battles in regards to unions. If a worker croaks 1 day before they are officially retired the spouse and family end up losing any family benefits. Likewise, if a worker close to retirement becomes too disabled to do the physically brutal work in the plant but not too disabled to work elsewhere the only choice is to just quit, work elsewhere and give up any lifetime benefits - or stay on disability and let someone tell you how you are allowed to use your body the rest of your life.

| 10. Factory work almost makes retiring at 70 close to impossible. |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-08-10 09:23 AM by Mudoria
I'm in my 38th year of it (55 yo) and at least 7 more years of it, if I make it. I know I can't continue to 67 much less 70. The body wears out much, much quicker doing this than most professions. Too bad the retirement age for this type of work isn't 60 so that those of us doing it can enjoy life a little before we pass on.

a factory worker but will consider Boehner's "work-till-70" proposition the moment he publicly renounces his Congressional pension, gold-plated Congressional benefits package and all other retirement perks Congresspeople have voted themselves. When he converts to a typical American factory worker's retirement plan/benefits perhaps I'll start listening.

I'll stipulate that some are whereas NO Republicans are. However, there seems to be a LOT of sentiment for this on the Democratic side as well.

The government gets tax revenue, the Social Security contributions, and more likely than not, you'll BE DEAD BEFORE YOU COLLECT A PENNY IN PENSION OR SOCIAL SECURITY.
And the elites, who have never lifted anything heavier than a fork to their mouths in their lives, live a long, healthy life on the backs of Labor.
F*****s.

Anyone that even suggests increasing the retirement age to 70 should be thrown out of office. And I mean every one, whether they have an R or a D next to their name.
