Imagine my surprise when I learned that Oprah will have Bill Gates, Michelle Rhee and filmmaker Davis Guggenheim of "Waiting for Superman" on her show tomorrow. Having these folks on her show tells me that she hasn't done her research even in her own backyard.

~How does she not know that charters do not educate our neediest students?

~How does she not know that closing down schools has a detrimental effect on the community?

~And finally how does she not know that charters and the running the schools like a business has mostly hurt minority students?

I think this blogger is naive. Oprah is part of the Chicago "mafia". Of course she's "done the homework" & she knows what she's supporting.

From the first, her show has had a hyper individualistic bent, in which all problems and solutions are personal.

Remember back in the old days, before teachers were public enemy number, and that scapegoat role was played by "welfare queens?" I'll never forget coming upon an Oprah episode where she was viciously humiliating a young mother receiving AFDC. This happened in the lead up to the elimination of "welfare as we know it," (also done by the Democrats), which is one major reaaon why poverty levels have risen, since welfare provided and income floor that people could not fall beneath. Now there's no limit to how far you can fall, all in the name of "personal responsibility."
