After many years as a customer, I just called and cancelled my Sirius/XM subscription.

The operator noted why and said that they do read customer feedback, especially on cancellations.

She said it was the first call she had received on Dr. Laura, so it probably won't make a difference.

Except to me.

On edit: I don't want to come across as sanctimonious by posting this. Truth be told, I am streaming any of thousands of radio stations and listening more to my own music on my iPhone in my car these days, and was using Sirius less and less. So if you still have or need satellite radio, I am not judging you. If I did not live in a 'big city' with so much cellular and WiFi coverage, I would have found it more difficult to cancel.

14. Dr. Laura's is not the only program or station on there.

Talk Left (167 on XM) C-span, BBC, two NPR's, various sports (such as tennis which isn't always covered on TV, and golf). I couldn't live without my XM. I know there are odious stations and programs on there, but there is plenty which you cannot find ANYWHERE else. My main objection is that there are some stations which you have to pay extra to get, which I'm not going to do.

I would have canceled long ago, had it not been for them adding back MSNBC. The Progressive station on XM includes content I would hardly call liberal, BTW, including Alex Bennett.

Samuels' shrill, high-pitched shriek of a speaking voice is beyond the pale totally unlistenable. I would say whether or not I agree with her opinions but I've never managed to listen to her long enough to hear one. JMO BTW

The cost of the player is about $60, but they have several models. That's all you pay Roku, is for the box. It's basically a small computer that streams audio/visual content. For example, you can use Netflix for about $9/mo. Stream all of the videos you want, and if it's not yet online they'll send you the DVD. There are a number channels(services) available spanning all types of media. If you click on "What's On" at the top of their website it shows the content you can subscribe too, and they are adding more and more.

Basically it works off your broadband connection via a router (not included). It has a wi-fi antenna built into it ... also your ethernet cable can plug directly into the Roku box.

Their web site has lots of information on it ... the one here works extremely well.

and that is including the kids channels!! i watch history/history international, discovery, science, DIY, usa TNT and the kids watch their kid channels. hardly seems worth $100/mo.

now Roku is having a problem with dropping the last 15 minutes or so of 1 hr MSNBC shows, but they're working on it and have isolated the problem. These are commercial free.

after this billing cycle ends. still trying to find stations though.... probably end up with hulu plus. but scared and excited at the same time. hard to imagine life before satellite tv. i know there was one. the roku and an off air antenna, netflix and possibly roku....

if you really want it. The progressive programming has not been very good for a long time, but I have a subscription that ends in March.

I listen to MSNBC at night (no cable) and occasionally to XM 167 (the progressive station) during the day for Thom Hartman and Ed Shultz, but I could listen to either of them online or terrestrial radio. The "progressive programming" is very uneven. As I mentioned up top, Alex Bennett (who was a Sirius staple) was thrust on us and I find him only marginally progressive, but maximally narcissistic and non-entertaining. My dog absolutely freaks at the Stephanie Miller show (no exaggeration--she HATES the sound effects), so we do not listen to her at all.

but i canceled my subscription shortly after the merger with sirius. I literally woke up one morning to find every single of my main pre-sets changed into different channels (Lucy, Liquid Metal, Fungus). I really really miss the old XM days :(

16. At the time of the Merger, my wife had XM and I had Sirius.

So we got the best of both worlds. She also cancelled hers shortly after the merger. Over time, Sirius killed much of what I liked about it.

I blame Howard Stern. When Stern came on board and 'saved' satellite radio, I saw it as a good thing in many ways. Sadly, his listeners came with him and they affected programming adversely.

Now Sirius/XM's central demographic are infantile middle-aged dudes.
