Gift books for Palin and Obama groupies

Whitman Publishing (known for their coin reference books) has released coffee table-sized books (dubbed “Collector’s Vaults”) about Barack Obama and Sarah Palin, both written by author Dave Lifton. These “limited edition” gift books are more like scrapbooks — except that all the scraps are replicas. Tucked inside are reproductions of old postcards, bumper stickers and newspaper clippings. There are fake thank you notes and party invitations. Of course, there are also lots of pictures to go along with the worshipful text.

Could this be the right gift for the starry-eyed Republican or Democrat on your list? Take a look at what’s inside before dropping $49.50 on one of them.

Palin’s edition includes:

A recipe card for Wasilla moose stew; a bumper sticker from her 2006 gubernatorial campaign; a copy of her resignation speech as governor of Alaska.

What's missing are receipts from her expensive shopping sprees at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Obama's edition includes:

The blue, yellow and purple inauguration tickets that caused so many problems for attendees; a copy of Metro’s special Obame-themed SmarTrip card; his inaugural address.

What's missing is memos from secret meetings with Citigroup, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and the Republican leadership.
