Isn't it funny how we put stuff down when we are almost finished? And they seem to call at us and we feel guilty..but take forever to pick them back up.

I have several of those UFO's that I am going to work on for the next few days. Anybody else want to work on an old UnFinishedObject along with me?

1. I like that "UFO" name!

Now you know I won't be able to hear that in any context and not think of my unfinished projects!

I'm still working on an afghan. It's more than half done. But I started it in 1997. Got it half done and put it aside when family things happened one after the other. I'd love to finish it with you. I picked it up when this forum started up and am enjoying it again.

2. Hey eleny

Love that green lipstick!!!

I have a wall hanging of 4 faces that I just need to put the binding on. I've got the binding made and ready to go.
I also have a little latchhook pillow that just needs binding too--do I see a pattern here!
I have that binding ready too.
Right now I am getting ready to go out to dinner with Robeson and his parents--We're going to a Thai place that is awesome but they don't serve wine...so I have a glass in hand as we speak.
We'll be home by 9 pm-his parents don't like to drive at night.
Then I will get to work with you!! ;-)

3. I almost started a thread the other day

about what part of your favorite craft do you hate the most? For me, it's burying the yarn ends, though once I actually get started, it's kinda fun. Might we say that for you, it's binding? :)

I can always use a brushing up on things like that.

6. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who hates burying the

yarn ends. I have a granny square afghan that has been languishing for 3 years waiting on me to weave in those loose ends. It's looks nice on the top side, but I get tired before I get started when I turn it over and look at that shaggy back.

9. Yarn ends...

are definitely a pain!! How do you weave yours? Do you use a yarn needle or a steel crochet hook? I try to do mine as I go along because I probably wouldn't ever go back and do it.:hi:

10. Help me out

The second one looks like latch hook. Is the first one painted or is it fabric?

Both of these speak to me. But I have to say that I would be tempted to put the rug on the floor on my side of the bed so I could put my toes on it every morning. Those are so nice underfoot even if they're special enough to put on the wall. The little checkerboard is a nice surprise, too!

11. The second is latchhook...

I have dragonflies everywhere in my studio and I just recently rearranged and I had an empty place on the wall...so that is why I hung it up. It's only 12 inches square---the checkerboard was not on the pattern-I just added it!
The faces wallhanging is fabric that I foundation paper pieced. It was in a magazine a few years ago and I just loved it. It is 28" x 35". I don't know where I will hang it yet. Robeson has alot of outsider art of women's faces so it will fit right in somewhere.

12. Thanks - and another question

What is "paper piecing"? Recently, I looked for an explanation and couldn't find a definition. Then I got sidetracked and didn't pursue it further.

13. Paper piecing...

It's is sometimes called foundation piecing or foundation paper piecing. They are all the same.
You start with a pattern drawn on paper or thin fabric. You sew in a certain order from the inside out and each piece you add on you flip open and then add a new piece and so on and so on...The pieces are numbered so it is easy. You just sew on the line between the 2 numbers-all just straight sewing and very easy. You can make really intricate patterns and they are always perfect! If you want to see a better explanation and get a free pattern go to www.caroldoak.com-she is a wonderfull teacher--that is how I learned. It is fun to do and you can use up alot of scraps that you would never use otherwise. You get the reverse of the pattern because you sew from the back side on the paper or fabric.
I am making a few blocks right now for the UFO I am working on.

15. I think I'm starting to get the picture

This sounds like what I should try since I'm a novice at anything quilting. I made a couple of potholders that you could call quilting since I sewed a big "X" across each potholder to hold together the sandwich. It was a challenge to use some wild fabric. Will show them in another thread for laughs.

But thanks - I'm going to visit the site you posted and get a better understanding. Sounds like you sew through the fabric and paper at the same time(?). Going over right now. TTYL.

7. I should join this UFO-along.

I have a pair of socks for Binka's son that need to get finished, a helmet liner to get done and sent, and a sweater for me that I put on hold only to pick it up again yesterday and realize how close I was to finishing (not far from done on the body and then just the sleeves). *sigh* I really need to spend more time knitting. ;)

:hi: Today I am working on a 15 inch star block that has been all alone for at least 10 years...so I am adding borders and we'll see how big it gets! I have alot of small 4 inch squares that are in a box and I am going to use them too.
My cats are certainly enjoying me getting all of these things out of the cabinet!!!

I hope to finish the helmet liner tonight (it's pretty close to done) so I can mail it out this week.

You know, as much as I love quilts, I should probably conquer that fear of my sewing machine and take a class. If that thing didn't scare me so badly (I always screw up what I'm working on when I pull that thing out, but I don't have time to hand-stitch everything), I'd have tried quilting ages ago. I just love looking at them and seeing how they're put together.

16. My Stash..

I need to take some new pictures-I have rearranged some and have a new desk with my own computer now. Let me know what you think.

17. I'm in - I just picked one up last night.

My mom died 4 years ago today, and I've been in a funk ever since. We quilted "together" even though we were 200 miles apart. (Emails and digital cams are great for that!) I haven't done much since then except a few charity projects each year.

Our local quilt show was this weekend, and I'm re-motivated and re-energized. I spent some time with friends from another guild, found a couple of great patterns, and met a lady doing terrific hand-dyes (don't even ask how much I spent in that booth!) I worked the show all weekend - set-up on Thursday and the show itself on Fri-Sat-Sun, so I'm beat. I'm at work today, and my guild meets tonight. I don't have time to start a new project right now.

So last night, I pulled out a quilt I started in 1999. It's an old-looking pattern with pastel tulips. I started it for my mother-in-law, and then stopped - I didn't want to give it to her because she always put the dog on the bed, and the dog would throw up on her bedspread on a regular basis. I put the quilt away for a while (okay, a long while). The dog died a few years ago, but I had gone back to work in the interim, so I never got around to working on this quilt again.

Honestly, I had done much more than I remembered. Each of 11 blocks has 3 stems, 3 flowers and 2 leaves. All the stems are done, all but 6 flowers are complete, and the leaves have been pinned in place. Since it's hand applique, I can do it anywhere. I hope to have all the handwork done by this weekend.

It's not a quilt I'd choose to do now. My fabric selections have changed tremendously since I started this quilt, both color and fabric quality. But I think it's something that MIL would like. So I'm going to finish it for her.

I'm glad you have gotten remotivated and have this quilt UFO to start with. I'm sure you MIL will Love it!!!
You are so lucky to have had a Mother that you shared qulting with and I know she would be so happy that you are back into it. My Mother died 4 years ago too on June 1-so I am right there with you. She never sewed but loved the things I made.
I know what you mean about different choices in years past. This UFO I am working on--Is NOT something I would make now..but it is pretty and I am looking forward to finishing it.
