| Anyone thinking about Halloween decorations yet? |
|
We're having a cold snap here in DC (temps in the mid 80's), and school started yesterday.
Naturally, I started thinking about Halloween.
Any good ideas out there for the yard or for indoor decorations?

| 1. We don't decorate -- our kids are grown and we have no trick-or-treaters |
|
because we're out in the country.
But I had my day! With four kiddos in five years, I would get on a roll sometimes with costumes. One year, they were all Care Bears -- easy to do with blanket sleepers and the matching fur hats with ears that I made, as well as the decorated tummies. Another year, they were Crayola crayons. I finished those costumes in the hospital after my back went out. I only had to make three of them as I was pregnant with my son at the time. :)
One year, my oldest daughter won the costume contest at middle school -- she was a kitchen table clad with a tablecloth and set for dinner. Her head was the flower arrangement in the middle and the "table" rested on her shoulders.
Where did I get the time and energy?

My daughter is grown, too, but she insists that we carry on the traditions of her childhood.
Right now, I'm thinking about perusing the Autumn decor mags.
Do you read those? Any recommendations?

One of my greatest talents. Fall is a great time of year and if you don't want to go with a Halloween theme just do fall decorations. I suggest.....change your sofa with fall colored pillows and throw. Fill an urn full of fall foliage with mums. Open your fireplace if you have one and scatter with silk leaves and put a string of 10 orange lights over your logs. Carve some pumpkins and put mums in them for your porch. Do a bowl of fall potpourri. Do a beautiful table with a fall table runner and bowl full of white pumpkins and place tea lights all the way down the table. Three pillar candles with a string of leaves woven in and out. Border a long shelf with white christmas lights covered with a long garland of leaves. Yankee candle has some great scented fall candle scents.

I made some last year, little black spiders that dangle from a thread. Her friends loved them.

| 5. We have street-facing windows and a deck in our new apartment, so I think |
|
I'll probably toss up some of those fun purple lights.
I don't really get into Halloween - the costumes are fun, but a lot of the decor doesn't work well for me (bats and witches and pumpkins oh my lol).
