The Dublin NH Craft Fair...we actually sold a lot of items!!!

What a thrill to realize that someone will pay money for your work!

1. Great!

Which were your top sellers? Were they what you thought they would be, or some last minute add-ons?

2. Well, hard to say. We do tole painting on wood, tin and slate. We

often will find old items in antique stores and recycle them. We usually do one-of-a-kind items. We did a project last year where we took pictures of historic buildings in Harrisville and then did renderings of them on slates. Those got a lot of attention, especially from men (who are usually bored stiff at these fairs) and we sold a number of them. One of the women in my little group has a bunch of tin maple sugaring vats.She painted up two of those and they sold. I think people like unusual stuff and not the mass produced, cookie cutter things that you get at some fairs.

We did add some small, inexpensive items at the last minute and they didn't move at all. Go figure! I think it depends on where the fair is (Dublin is a pretty wealthy town) and when it takes place. There is another fair in Keene closer to Christmas which we may do and I assume we'll sell stuff, but who knows. We are still very new at this.

You're so smart for tapping into local interests - of history and maybe even memories. And that keeps it fun for you doing the painting.

What kind of small items did you make that didn't sell? If they're small enough, maybe they could be bundled in threes to sell as gift package toppers. You know, the kind of thing that can be tied to the bow or that can get tied into a big wreath. Maybe not but the idea popped into my head and I figured to share it. I want to make a Halloween wreath and will make some small wood or metal shapes to tie into it.

3. Congrats!

I go to lots of craft fairs with my wife, and you're right that items men will buy are few and far between. When we see a shop like yours, we tend to head for it while the wife checks out the floral wreaths across the aisle.

10. Did you copy the url that's in the Direct Link field?

I noticed that when I click on that link in my Photobucket, the little yellow box appears indicating that the link is copied to my clipboard. But it doesn't always copy it in full. So, you might need to right click on that link, then choose Copy - to be sure it copies to your clipboard. And then paste it into your posting here at DU.

12. I'd guess maybe 100 booths. It is a very nice fair. No made in

China stuff. We would definately do it again next year. There are bigger fairs...Deerfield Ma has one or two a year but you have to do 2 full days and we're not there yet. The other thing we've done to build up our confidence is to enter some of the County Fairs like the Cheshire Fair in Swanzey NH and the Deerfield Fair in Deerfield NH. We've won some ribbons at those fairs and it's loads of fun.
