Finished the bride's wrap -- pic!

Is it still necessary to block crochet work? The yarn is 100% nylon. Thanks! :hi:

I'm meeting my daughter, the bride, for the fitting of her wedding dress today and want to bring the wrap to see how it will look. The wedding is one week from tomorrow and I still have one bridesmaid wrap to go. I already gave the bride the finished one so I'll post a pic when I get the second finished. I don't know if I'll get to make myself a shrug for the wedding after all. I'm running out of time!

4. The wrap looks lovely. As far as blocking, I haven't blocked any

of my work in years, but I work mainly with acrylic yarns. Have you checked the label on the yarn? It will usually give you care instructions of the finished garment.

5. To my knowledge, wool is the only fiber that requires blocking

and in that category I include alpaca, mohair, probably angora, etc. I have to admit I have blocked acrylic, and it behaved a little better and looked a little neater afterwards. I really doubt you need to block, tho.

It's gorgeous. Hang in there! But relax and enjoy.

6. Well, there's been a change in plans.

When we finally got to put the wrap with the dress at the fitting today, we realized that the color just isn't going to work. The dress is more of a bone color than either of us remembered. We were going to head on over to the yarn store and get a different color yarn but then we found a beautiful fake fur stole at the bridal store that matches the dress perfectly and looks really great. It's $80 but the yarn would cost half of that and I'd be hard-pressed to get it ready in time. So I got it for her and I'm going to wear the wrap that I made, which should look great with my lavender dress. :)

That wrap would be gorgeous with a lavendar dress, and the fake fur will be nice and warm for your daughter. Great!

I'm so glad that everything worked out for you and your daughter. This way, you can relax and enjoy the festivities and have some time with your daughter, rather than worrying about finishing 3 (bride's, yours, and bridesmaid's ?) more wraps. Do you still need to finish the other bridesmaid's wrap?

The mistake I made with my own wedding was that I left so much so be done at the very end, when my guests came in town, I was worn out, and my head was in a million different places, that I couldn't really relax and enjoy their company.

If you still have that other wrap to complete, will it take you long? I'll just bet you are speedy with that crochet hook! Your work is beautiful!! You know you have to post pictures of the wedding party here!!! :hi:

One week to go and things are right on track.

It just occurred to me that your family is having the first weddings of our Crafts Group!

10. Just got back from another fitting of the wedding dress.

The bridal shop neglected to add the button and loops so that the dress can be bustled for the reception and the expert fitter wasn't there last night so we went back today. The dress will be ready Wednesday so I'll go back with her then to get my "bustling lesson." :) The fitter also showed us some other ways for the bride to wear the fur stole -- the one she liked best was wrapped over the back, then around and under her arms so that it ties in the back, leaving her decollete exposed. ;) The forecast for a week from today is sunny and a high of around 70 so it should be perfect but if it's cooler than that, she could also wear it tied in the front with the bow in front of one shoulder.

Switching to the above-pictured wrap for me meant I needed different shoes as the ones I was planning to wear are bone-colored. I also needed new gloves. We found some really cool shoes that are similar to these with a lavender ribbon that exactly matches my dress. Mine have a low clear heel and the ribbon covers more of the vinyl band.



We decided to take the bow off because it does not match my dress so well. My daughter has a beautiful broach with lavender stones so I'm going to use it instead. I'm also going to add some length to the wrap.

So I still have some crocheting left to do on one bridesmaid's wrap and my wrap but I have all day tomorrow after I finish grading some more papers tonight. :) I'll take a new photo when it's finished, plus one of a bridesmaid wrap.

Lavender is a favorite of mine --I made my wedding dress in lavender.

Now I just need to add some rows to my wrap and I'm all set!
