| I just watched the Edwards interview on Nightline. |
|
Initially - first few moments - I was thinking about turning off the TV and forgetting about it.
But much to my surprise, I kind of felt for him AT TIMES. He was WAY too much explaining how he got to where he was (ego, etc.) and it sounded a bit like an excuse. But then, something I'd never seen from him before, he'd say things with feeling and emotion and I believed what he was saying.
Like tsegat said, once they lie... The interviewer asked what I've been wondering -- Did Elizabeth know he went to the hotel? He said he called her and told her the next day (she was NOT pleased). Of course I'm thinking he only called her because there were photographers stalking him, and he wanted her to hear it from him first.
And another odd thing, he kept dissing the supermarket tabloids and how you can't believe what they print. I'm thinking - Uh, that's who broke this story, John.
I think the interviewer was great - really pointed, uncomfortable questions, but not badgering. I wonder if he's like that with all interviewees. Name escapes me.
So in summation :7. I do think he feels badly about hurting Elizabeth and his family. (Oh! When asked about his supporters, he missed a huge opportunity to ask for THEIR forgiveness, too. Instead, it was like "it's up to them to judge")
I also am not feeling 100% about the paternity thing. Which leads me to wonder if maybe the affair picked up again, but he didn't tell Elizabeth, so he's hoping like hell nothing will come of his offer to take a paternity test.
If you guys watch, tell us your reactions.

| 1. I skimmed part of the transcript on ABC - I think it was Bob Woodruff |

no relation to Judy as far as I know - the guy who had just started as anchor and went to Iraq and was terribly injured. He's missing a big piece of his skull! He and his wife wrote a book about it: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7641619

Yikes! I vaguely remember about him getting injured, but not the specifics. Well, his brain is intact - I think he did an outstanding job. I'll check out the link -- thanks!!

is a really impressive guy. I just saw him this week on Charlie Rose. His recovery was amazing but he still has trouble remembering simple things.

I'm really getting sick of most of the TV personalities. Thank god for Olbermann. I haven't gotten tired of him yet.

| 13. Okay, I finally got to watch it |
|
and like JIOOU, I'm not really sure. He seemed a little more sincere, but he still smiled too much which was something that always annoyed me when he was campaigning. He didn't blink as much though.
It sounds like he doesn't plan to pursue another political career, which is probably for the best. Personally I don't care if I ever see him again.

it was about to break w/out his Woodruff confession. Better to do a Friday (before the Olympics) newsdump and let it die than wait till the week after the convention and have it blow up. JMO.

Here's my CURRENT scenario. He has an affair. He tells Elizabeth. She forgives him and he promises it is over. It's not. The woman becomes pregnant and he takes care of her financially. He also takes care of himself by having his supporter claim paternity.
So now, he's free to say "I'd welcome a paternity test" knowing that the woman won't agree, or else she'd lose the assurance of financial support for her baby.
If it was my child, I'd keep my mouth shut and keep the money coming, to assure a good future for my kid. Although, if it IS his and he takes a DNA test, he'd be paying child support anyway, so...
See, Edwards? This is what happens when you get caught - your credibility is shot and people are more likely to assume you're telling a lie than talking the truth.
Does anyone remember how this FIRST broke? Who was the first 'leak'?

He really should have just kept his mouth shut and not give an interview on ABC. If he stayed out of politics, people would have forgotten.
Your scenario makes sense to me.
