CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Vice President-elect Joe Biden and his
family are in the U.S. Virgin Islands for a brief vacation.
A government spokesman says Gov. John deJongh greeted Biden at the airport.
Jean Greaux said Saturday that Biden is "here for a couple of days of rest and relaxation."
The St. John Source newspaper reported that Biden is staying at a private house on Water Island.
President-elect Barack Obama visited the U.S. Caribbean territory with his family in March.
a year ago with my family.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2008-12-27-virgin-islands_N.htmI visited Water Island about two years ago with my family, we went on an excursion there during a cruise with Royal Caribbean. Its a tiny little island, so small that the post office is like the size of a shack. I went bike riding there with my brother and his wife and we hung out at a beautiful area called Honeymoon Beach afterwords. Beautiful, uninhabited and very private. I think Joe and Jill will love it there. Only problem I had was the misquotes, they were small but numerous and I was all bitten up at the end of the day. :( This was in May so in December I think that is not a problem. Hope Joe and his family have a great time there. One strange thing about Water Island I remember them telling us about is that they must get things from the main Virgin Islands and bring them over to Water Island, there really is nothing there, its so small and desolate. They have one main road and it goes up the side of the island but its very steep and curvy. It was really getting back to nature there.
