UPDATE 5:00PM ILLEGAL SWEARING IN OF DE FACTO PRESIDENT IN HONDURAS
RIght now the Honduran Congress is illegally swearing in the president of Congress, Micheletti, as the de facto president of Honduras, in the next development of this ongoing military-civil coup taking place throughout the day.

President Zelaya is still in forced exile in Costa Rica, after being beaten and kidnapped by soldiers under orders of those involved in the coup. Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas is still disappeared, after also being beaten and taking prisoner by the Honduran military in clear violation of her rights.

The United States maintains a military base in Soto Cano, Honduras, that houses approximately 500 soldiers and special forces. The U.S. military group in Honduras is one of the largest in U.S. Embassies in the region. The leaders of the coup today are graduates of the U.S. School of the Americas, a training camp for dictators and repressive forces in Latin America.

Will the Obama Administration recognize the coup government in place now in Honduras? Or will Obama call for the reinstatement of constitutional president Manuel Zelaya. We are waiting to hear from the White House....

UPDATE 4:32PM MASSIVE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS UNDERWAY IN HONDURAS
The Honduran president, Manuel Zelaya, elected in November 2005, has been kidnapped, beaten and forced into exile in Costa Rica. A fake letter of resignation, with his forged signature (see blog entry below), was used by Honduras' opposition majority Congress to justify the president's ouster. Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas was brutally beaten and kidnapped by military forces in her residence just before noon and taken into custody. She has not been seen since.

In complete violation of diplomatic law, the ambassadors of Venezuela and Cuba were both beaten and kidnapped for a short period by Honduran soldiers, under orders of the coup leaders. They have both been released and have taken refuge again in their respective embassies.

A non-binding vote, scheduled for today, on a possible future constitutional assembly, was impeded by the coup leaders, violating the Honduran people's right to vote and participate in their political processes.

Nations around the world, including the United Nations, Organization of American States, Latin American countries and even the United States have condemned the events in Honduras. Only the Obama Administration has yet to clarify whether they will recognize the illegal coup government led by the president of Honduras' congress, Micheletti. "

Btw, spoke about an hour ago to a Honduran friend in Miami who has been in contact with her mother in Tegucigalpa. The mother said they are without electricity because the milicos had taken over the electric company. No water either because of no electricity. Mother said there were protests in the streets but she had heard NO gunfire. Hope no Hondurans suffer at the hands of the golpistas.

4. Zelaya on his way to Managua

Costa Rica government says Venezuela has sent an airplane to transfer Zelaya to Nicaragua this afternoon, to attend the emergency ALBA meeting that has been convened tomorrow in Managua.

Update: Honduran newspaper La Prensa saying electricity, water and telephone services have been restored.

Also, at least seven of Zelaya's cabinet minister and top aides have been detained, including the woman foreign minister, who was meeting with the Cuban and Venezuelan ambassadors when troops barged in and took them away in a truck.

The good news is that Telesur is reaching out by phone to get the citizen's reaction -- the people are revolutionary and kicking ass saying that they will never ever accept a president other than Zelaya. (There are big cheering squads in the background)

and they ended up with a multi-national force invasion,a murderous two-year regime put in place by the US,and a 9,000 UN peacekeeper force to prop up a coup that was rejected wholesale by the people.

if this coup in Honduras is rejected across the country, that is one more hint that the US is behind it. And yes, as EFerrari says the coup planners will enjoy early retirement on Calle Ocho.

Cuba Condemns Coup against Honduras Constitutional President

HAVANA, Cuba, June 28 (acn) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez
Parrilla strongly condemned a coup d´état perpetrated on Sunday morning
by Honduran military forces against the government of President Manuel
Zelaya and demanded respect for the Constitution of this Central
American country.
During a press conference at the venue of the Cuban Foreign Ministry
(MINREX) in Havana, Rodriguez also condemned the military’s violation of
the diplomatic immunity of Cuba’s Ambassador to Tegucigalpa Juan Carlos
Hernandez, who was kidnapped and beaten along with Honduran Foreign
Minister Patricia Rodas in the presence of the Venezuelan and Nicaraguan
ambassadors.
Speaking over the phone, Hernandez said that troops with hoods on,
led by a major whose surname was Oceguera, forcibly took Rodas and him
to a military base in Tegucigalpa while they beat and insulted him as he
refused to leave the Honduran top diplomat alone.
Hours later, he was released and, with the help of friends, returned
to the Cuban embassy, where all the personnel remains firm, like the
more than 480 compatriots, mainly doctors and nurses currently working
in diverse areas of the Honduran geography protected by the people,
Rodriguez Parrilla added.
There’s a constitutional government in Honduras, legitimately
elected, and that is the one we recognize, stressed the Cuban Foreign
Minister, who also referred to the uncertainty that prevails in
Tegucigalpa and other regions of Honduras due to the violence
perpetrated by coup supporters against the people.
Rodriguez Parrilla asked the international community, in particular
the governments of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our
Americas (ALBA), the United Nations, the Non Aligned Movement (NOAL) and
the Rio Group, to condemn the coup against Zelaya.
He also urged political parties and the Honduran Congress to act in
accordance with the Constitution of this nation.
The Cuban FM also held the Honduran military responsible for the
life of his Honduran counterpart Patricia Rodas and the integrity of the
Cuban embassy and its personnel.
He also urged the international press to be objective in these
difficult moments.
I’m convinced that truth and justice will make their way, concluded
Rodriguez Parrilla, who recalled that military coups, such as the one
against Chilean President Salvador Allende in 1973, are part of history.
