Over 2,000 tons of cement arrive in Venezuela from Cuba
The rest of the product will arrive in Venezuela in the coming weeks, in other eight shipments
CARACAS, Tuesday December 28, 2010

A total of 2,355 tons of Cuban cement, from a batch of nearly 7,000 tons, are being unloaded at the port of La Guaira, in coastal Vargas state.

This material, which will be used in the construction of housing for flood victims in recent weeks, is part of the donation of 6,900 tons of cement made by the Government of Cuba to Venezuela.

The rest of the product will arrive in Venezuela in the coming weeks, in other eight shipments, reported state-run news agency AVN.

In addition to the thousand tons of cement, the Government of Cuba will also donate 500,000 square meters of asbestos cement tiles, 200,000 square meters of ceramic floor and 32,000 mattresses.

Bolivian President Evo Morales traveled to Venezuela with humanitarian aid to families affected by heavy rains.
Morales arrived at the Air Base Rafael Urdaneta in Venezuela's northwestern state of Zulia and handed over aid including 50 tons of rice.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez met Morales and expressed thanks for the aid.
Bolivia has already sent mattresses, milk, drinking water and other goods.

Chavez said Bolivia's humanitarian aid would be distributed to indigenous families affected by the rains in Zulia.
Morales is the second foreign leader to travel to Venezuela to personally express solidarity with the flood victims.

On Dec. 14, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa personally handed over 11.2 tons of food to Venezuela and visited two makeshift shelters.

Ecuador's President Rafael Correa will visit Colombia next week to mark Ecuador's solidarity with its neighbor during this year's disastrous rainy season, reports Ecuadorean newspaper Andes.

During his trip Correa will visit Colombia and Venezuela and will coordinate donations to both countries' embassies and aid organizations. He will bring 2,000 food rations for Colombian families affected by the unusually heavy rains.

Colombia's prolonged rainy season has left 1.6 million people homeless, affected 28 out of 32 departments, and destroyed 1,750 homes.

Brazil donates 12 tons of humanitarian aid to Venezuela
The second shipment of humanitarian aid from Brazil arrived on a Hercules aircraft of the Brazilian Air Force

Twelve tons of humanitarian aid sent by the Government of Brazil arrived on Tuesday in Venezuela for distribution among people affected by the heavy rains that have hit Venezuela since November.

The shipment was received at the airport of Maiquetía, Vargas state, by the national director of Civil Protection and Disaster Management, Luis Díaz Curbelo, as well as the first secretary of the Embassy of Brazil to Venezuela, Marcio Blois, and the Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Diego Guerra.

The second shipment of humanitarian aid from Brazil arrived on a Hercules aircraft of the Brazilian Air Force.

Díaz Curbelo said that the new humanitarian aid shipment included tents, medical supplies, antibiotics and anti-venom sera, oral rehydration solutions, among others.
