Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Tuesday President-elect Dilma Rousseff will do an outstanding job in continuing the work started in his administration.
"Dilma will lead an extraordinary government and continue the project that she helped to build," Lula said, referring to Rousseff's previous position as his chief of staff.
"The car is already going at 110 km an hour, she will take it to 130," he said.
The outgoing president also commented on his eight-year presidency, saying that after he took office, he had to prove his election would not be a disappointment to the country.
"I had to prove everyday that someone who came from the people could rule just like all the PhDs who presided over this country," Lula said.
