Venezuelan opposition group sends a protest letter to French FM

In a letter forwarded to Bernard Kouchner, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Venezuelan opposition group 400+, an advocate of democratic institutions, lamented his request for mediation of the Venezuelan government with Iran with regard to the nuclear issue.
"Your country's new diplomatic approach towards the Venezuelan regime (…), and to also promote a closer relationship between two nations - Iran and Venezuela - united in their objective of disturbing international peace, cannot but merit our absolute rejection," stated the letter, AFP quoted.
Last week, during a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro in Paris, Kouchner asked him to "transmit Tehran the offer to dialogue," of the West, in view of the Venezuelan government cordial relations with Iranian authorities.
"We find it particularly incomprehensible that France, not only as a permanent member of the Security Council, but also as President of the European Union, did not consult the rest of the Council members, including the non-permanent members of our region - Costa Rica and Panama - before seeking as intermediary on such a critical issue none other than the militarized and authoritarian regime of Venezuela which unconditionally supports Iran's contempt towards the Council's resolutions, as well as to the decisions adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency," added the letter.
