What Health Care Systems/What Countries Should My Students Study?
For research papers and speeches, I am asking my students to research the health care systems of other countries.

The courses are 3 sections of academic research and writing and one speech course. A total of around 100 students will be involved.

The countries I have tentatively selected are Sweden, France, and the UK. I am not suggesting Canada because of its high cost.

I'd like five countries covered. Which do you think would be best if my objective is to get students to understand single payer and financial efficiency? I would appreciate suggestions for additional countries, too.

Cher

1. i would include Canada since they are socialized risk/privatized delivery.
While they are the second most expensive system in the world per capita, they are still far less expensive than the US and everyone is covered. They are also provincially administered systems as opposed to a nationally administered system.

The UK is socialized risk (Single Payer) and socialized delivery (single care provider) It would be interesting to compare/contrast the UK with our VA system which is also a health service model.

France is multipayer system with the private payers very heavily regulated.

2. Any of the Scandinavian countries like Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Also, how about some so called third world countries like Cuba and Costa Rica, who are still able to deliver universal health care to their citizens?
