You can't negotiate with terrorists. By that he meant you can't negotiate with those who want to destroy you because of who you are or what you stand for because you could never give enough to satisfy them.
Obama should take this advice to heart in dealing with Republicans who want nothing more than to destroy him. I suspect he will have learned an important lesson if Coakley loses. He has tried to placate Republicans only to not get a single Republican vote on HCR and instead we have a shit bill and a deflated Dem. base. He was elected to lead and lead he must do. Screw the Republicans. If we pass bills and the Republicans take back control of government in 2010 and 2012 then it's clear our vision was not the one America wanted. If we continue to pass corporate welfare for the worst industry in our society and in so doing help very few, then we deserve to lose because we failed at leading.

I think Obama will take a Coakley loss as a sign that he was not conservative enough since he lost moderate/independents.
