I think he seems like a nice guy.
I liked the Obama back when he was a community organizer and was at least a bit more aggressive about getting good done.
I even liked the Obama that campaigned for president.
I think he made a lot of mistakes and many of them were trying to get the conservative Democrats to go along with him by putting so damned many of them in his cabinet.
I think that putting so many Goldman Sachs executives in his administration was the high end of folly.
But I honestly think this thread is a waste. It merely serves as a poor attempt to counter legitimate criticism and it looks utterly transparant. If you think he is doing an excellent job and that he doesn't have to change a thing than by all means, continue to post these landfills of pointless praise. All it does is encourage other democrats to aim lower and lingerer evernearer the very status quo that most of us showed up at the ballot box to vote agaisnt.

Obama's not perfect, but I like him and for the most part I support his decisions. I like that he speaks like he's speaking to adults. I think he is trying to do what he feels is best for the country. I think he's trying his damnedest to make some lemonade with the lemon shaped rocks, twigs, and turds he was given when he took office. I wish him success.
Go Obama.

would show him some respect.
The new media narrative seems to be Obama is failing. When/if he does, it will be our fault for letting it happen.
I do not think we should follow blindly but each time you find it necessary to voice your disapproval remember:
1. They impeached Clinton. We didn't stand behind him.
2. You contribute to what may become accepted: he has failed which of course will bring you:
3. Sarah.

I like having an intelligent, moral President who cares about the Country. It's nice not getting up and wondering what disaster we are about to get ourselves into. It's nice having a President who won't embarass us. It's nice to have competent caring people in Government who really want to make things better.
Yes, the economy sucks, but at least he's trying to help us instead of just lining his and his cronies pockets.

Don't go down the path of the Republicans, where you have to agree with their very narrow agenda or get the f@ck out.
This forum is a place where Democrats of all leanings - left, progressive, conservative, etc can come to discuss policies and politics.
I left another big, well known progressive sight because they started censoring all of the posts. Don't let that happen here!

Lets get people in charge who actually do things instead of just talking about doing things someday. Unfortunately, that includes the president, who is also the leader of our party.
This goes for congress as well. Lead or get the hell out. Be honest or get out. Serve the people or get out.

He's a transformative president and the effect of his work will be felt in many years to come. Unfortunately, many many people in America are just not up to this man's intelligence or vision, and others really thought that he's some kind of Messiah who'll fix everything overnight (or in 10 months). He was left with a big pile of sh*** by the idiot before him and it'll take him an entire term to fix this massive damage. Sadly, i'm afraid, the American people just won't get that and may not give him another term to not only fix, but actually to build.

When the next civilian or soldier is mutilated or dies, we can comfort ourselves that Obama was the better choice.
When the next worker loses a job, we can make excuses for Obama. He really can't be like FDR, the times are just too different.
When the next family is foreclosed upon, sit in your warm home and shout Obama is our man. Congress and past Presidents are responsible for that mess.
I dropped off some food today and saw the long line of families waiting to get inside. As I pulled back into the driveway I could see my Obama yard sign in the front garden, a show of support that means less and less.
I just don't see how it is about like anymore but have your op and I hope it brings you peace. Maybe that is why someone would unrec.

Pissed about all the stuff, landmines, war, Geitner, etc. I still love Obama. I know he's up against an incredible and seemingly relentless machine. I send love and prayers for Michelle, the girls, and our President every day.
You know, sometimes it seems like the incremental ooch to the right and away from the light of reason gets further every R presidency. My country, auwe no ho'i. I hope this time we can right the ship at least enough to keep sailing to clear skies again. Somehow.
We shouldn't take a second term for granted, not with the hate spewing, lying nutbags on every air wave misleading good Americans 24-7.
Anyhow. Yes, K and R.

and if I had to do it all over again, I would support him as I have done. I have looked at what other Presidents have done, and in comparison, he's not too shabby.
I'm giving him through his first term, and if I don't like what I'm left with after that, then I won't give a shit if he doesn't get a 2nd term, likable or not.
I'm sitting back watching so many crying about this new president, and how totally fucked up they think he is as they demand things that will never be; not based on who we are and where we leave and the media that we have.
I say, leave it to the people to decide at election time. That's the part I like best about democracy. There's an election, and then the elected official gets the time to do his/her thing, and then you get to decide whether you liked it or not. Sounds so civilized..... I'm loving it....cause that Bushshit wasn't really "elections" from what I saw.

We had eight years of a nightmare. We dreamed what it would be like with our own guy in the White House. We imagined, we talked, we shared our visions of a "New America' with each other, the dream grew. We knew the problems facing a new President. We seemed to be a little pragmatic then, "Give him a chance, change will come."
Now we are waking from our dream, and as with all dreams, reality is just not as desirable, we expect perfection, nothing is perfect.
We have been given a voice, been given tools to be able to exact that change, yet we quibble on how to use those tools, how loud the voice should be.
On this Thanksgiving we should be thankful, if for no other reason, the overwhelming fear is gone. Is that one reason not good enough for now? We can, today, look that fear of everything in the eyes and defeat it.
Not all will be as we dreamed, but it is hopeful, it is hopeful. When is the last time, during the eight year nightmare you were able to say that?

Tired of people making excuses for his mounting policy failings. He is judged by and held to the same standards, if not higher standards, than all past presidents. Why higher? Because he duped us all into believing he was different, that he actually gives a damn about the "little people".
I'm tired of people willing to give him a free pass or "a little more time" just because he has chosen to market himself under a democratic/progressive label. It's time to face the fact that he's a liar the same as the rest. Republican, Democratic there is no discernible difference in the politicians.

He asked that we hold his feet to the fire, and that's what I see many on DU doing.
People are hurting out there, and many of us see Obama as having the ability to help many of us. Things move a little too slowly sometimes, and it seems like priorities don't always align with the areas of the highest need, but it could be a lot worse.
And honestly, I want to stop saying, "it could be worse." I want to be able to say that this Presidency is amazing... look at all we were able to accomplish. Look at all of the injustice in the U.S. that has been reversed.
I try to be patient, but I appreciate having DU as a place to vent when I need it and think through what's going on in the world.

I can say, however, that I just do not support too many of his decisions and lack of action.
If the post had been "K&R if you support Obama", it would have been much tougher. The land mine decision is pushing me over the edge because it is so cut and dried for me. Then there is Afghanistan, Patriot Act, Iraq, Gitmo, extraordinary rendition, etc., etc., etc.
Got my rec, though.

|
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 11:49 AM by Maineman
life is very difficult.
When senators and representatives in your own party sell out to corporate money, life is very difficult.
When Republicans are willing to destroy an administration from the opposing party without regard to the well-being of the country, life is very difficult.
When a media mogul uses an entire cable network to destroy your credibility, life is very difficult.
When you inherit a military that is saturated with high level officers who are neocons installed by people like Dick Cheney, life is very difficult.
When you are the first Black president trying to bring people together and make very significant changes, life is difficult.
I wish our president had more confidence to give up on trying to win over block-headed, malevolent Republicans.
People who believe in democracy in general and President Obama in particular need to really get behind him to both support him and push him.

| 179. screw the critics of progressive policy |
|
And the people who would stand behind do-nothings and big talkers who deliver next to nothing. Screw the leadership who wont deliver. Screw the corrupt. Screw the warmongers who sent our people into the goddamned desert to get mangled with no real mission, then to return home and be forgotten. Screw those who won't defend the laws.
You should stand behind policies and ideas, not people. You'll get disappointed a lot less often, and you'll find that supporting policy works a lot better. Dont support Obama, support quality health care for all. Dont support a 'president during a war', support using the troops in reasonable ways that honors their dripping blood. Support food for everyone. Support fair business practices. Support funding for domestic issues over military ones. Support freedom of and from religion. Support a non corporatist government. IF Obama and this congress deliver, then great, if not, vote them out. The end game here is not about personality, its about getting these (and many other) critical issues taken care of.
And watch your mouth, people who disagree with you-- especially here-- aren't all republicans, and saying so makes you look shallow.

Most of the Obama critics are really Republicans and/or Freepers in disguise. There's a post on GDP about how wrong it is for the President to have state dinners in times of economic turmoil. What the fuck is that other than some Freeper operative pretending to be a Liberal?

We don't like his escalation of the war in CRAP-GHANISTAN!
We don't like his support for the craponomic policies of the neo-crappers like Goldman-Craps!
We don't like his support for crap like rendition, Craptanamo Bay, and "enhanced crapterrogations"!
We don't like his support for crapsourcing our jobs overseas!
Etc,...

I didn't vote for Obama because I thought he would accomplish, or even try to accomplish, for that matter, everything I want to see done in this country.
I voted for him, because I think he is the right leader at the right time with really good ideas and the temperment and intellect to get the job done.

Sure, I wish he wasn't so wedded to the status quo but capable, engaged, and reasonably well intentioned pretty much puts you in above average levels right from the jump.
