He's a relatively young guy. No one who seriously believes they will ever be President is going to follow Kennedy's disastrous '80 model. He would burn too many bridges and ultimately lose. I'm sure he has a plan, but that certainly isn't it.

ya know, one without much real work required. Thinkin lots of 'retiring' pols are gonna be off to the real rewards of all their work while in office.
Or, some are looking at some serious dirty laundry about to come out.
Still hoping Larry Flynt has his bounty available for proof of hypocrisy by 'family values' spoutin pols. That could rid us of many liars and cheats in high places.

But I STILL harbor hope that Flynt's offer of bounties for evidence of 'family values' pols' hypocrisy are still out there. I believe he said they should resign or know the truth will out.
Sure are a lot of retirements coming up. While I am not a fan of his publications, I do think Mr. Flynt is a most patriotic man who gives more than lip service to the Constitution and what it stands for. I would LOVE to know so many pols are falling on their swords due to being found out to be less than they insist others be.

Why would Obama reward him for essentially giving a seat to the Republicans in 2010. One radio report said that there is on;y a week for someone else to get on the ballot. Some thing - health, scandal etc must have happened. If his reason were as given this should have been done months ago.

Bayh could easily re-assemble Clinton's coalition of older, whiter, and more conservative Democrats. Meanwhile Obama would have to explain to the Latte liberals, the young/jobless, and the peaceniks why he's been pissing on them. This allows Bayh to turn Obama into exactly what the Clinton campaign tried to: the Jesse Jackson of the election, able only to depend on the African American vote.

Wallace did. There aren't enough challenges (or really even enough sitting democratic presidents) within the last 100 years to make a rule about this. Basically in modern political history we have Wallace in 1964 from the right and Kennedy in 1980 from the left.

I can tell you with absolute 100% certainty that Bayh will NOT--I repeat, NOT--challenge Obama for the nomination in 2012.
Also, FYI--if Wallace was alive today, he'd be a Republican.
I'm sick of hearing reams of conspiracy theory bullshit from this website. Obama is not going to be challenged from the right, and I'm about 95% certain there will be no serious challenge from the left in 2012, either.

|
At that time, he had one of the largest war chests and there were clear signals he was thinking about it - but the what was so cold, it might have been ice. Challenging an incumbent is a harder task - what would have changed to make Bayh an interesting competitor?
I really think Obama is close enough to the center of the DEMOCRATIC party spectrum that there is no "room" on the right or left for a challenge. That is likely near impossible - remember that Jimmy Carter was unpopular and Obama is not; Carter was to the right edge of the party - Obama is to the center; Ted Kennedy was charismatic and Bayh isn't - and Ted Kennedy lost.
