Have media or republicans done anything surprising?

Doesn't happen. Question is asked, why?

Answer: Republicans obstruct! Media distorts! (and big-money interests are favored, public is stupid, etc.)

Isn't that like blaming gravity for why someone fails at a high-jump?

"The media are pushing a narrative..." Yes. They always have. One is supposed to control/shape/influence that narrative.

That... is... the... job.

An explanation that boils down to saying that the world is exactly what everyone already knew it to be is not real useful.
