It isn't worth all the effort being expended, and I'm dubious how serious he is with it. Most see it as a bit of a strategy more than a real proposal. It could be a slight improvement on the status quo, although the mandatory part really bugs me. Forcing folks to buy insurance they probably won't be able to afford to use doesn't seem like a step forward to me. Without a public option I'm afraid that in the long term it will be a net sum loss. And it will entrench the insurance companies within our government.

I will be very discouraged if Democrats aren't able to at least enact a weak version of a public option as contained in the House Bill, with commanding majorities in both Houses of Congress and a Democratic President.

16. I want Medicare E - medicare for everyone.

But this proposal makes a big step in asserting the governments role in the general health of its citizens. It may well be a watershed moment signaling the eventual end of for-profit health care in America. The idea that some rake in millions off the medical misfortunes of many is just plain sick.

I'll take this as a good start - and keep working for a day when health care is a fundamental right in our country.

By passing nothing, the GOP will be able to make outrageous claims about what the bill WOULD HAVE BEEN.

The GOP will be able to invent any crazy lie and make it stick because there will be nothing concrete for the Dems to point to.

And as I said, if that happens, the Dems will get crushed, and we'll get nothing.

Their only chance is to pass something so that the debate on heath care is GROUNDED.

And ... I'd love to see GOP members explain how they are against preventing insurers from dropping those who get sick, or those with pre-existing conditions.

If it is not bigoted, it is not Barack, you know. Add the mandated purchase of worthless and expensive Insurance products designed not for wellness of the participant but for the profits of the providers, and you get a big steaming pile of vile.
This President used to say that mandates were a horrible joke, and would only be needed if the Insurance was not a good value, and not affordable. He mocked all those who supported mandates, derided the very thought of them.
He also said that any bill he signed would have to contain a public option.

For a man who claims his religion dictates his bigotry, it is funny that his religion does not seem to influence him to speak honestly, or directly. Funny as in hypocritical beyond all imagination.

Only way to stop the insurance corporations huge profits on peoples health care needs, millions of too sick (i.e., too expensive, for insurance corporations hurts their profit margin) people get tossed off or can't afford insurance companies raised premiums, while insurance industry under insures others and then there's no insurance for more than 50 million others!
