| Will the Iceland volcano cause a worldwide economic collapse? After 18 months of spewing ash we may |
|
be in big, big, big trouble.
Also the major rise in the stock market is over as far as I'm concerned and it's time to get out or start selling short big time, if you have the know how or ability.

nobody learns how to sell. This has been one of the best and fastest run ups in history, how long do you think it can last????

Don't start threads claiming the sky is falling and it's time for people to get out unless you can back it up with more than your simplistic conclusions. And if you do, be prepared to hear from people who know more than you about the topic and will take issue with you.
If you start a thread here and make some ridiculous statement - as in the OP - you make it my business, and it will be my business to correct you. Your comments are uninformed.
Have you ever sold stock short, even once? Have you moved your investments from the stock market to something else this week, following your own advice? Or is this just you making another ridiculous, unsupported claim?

You might as well link some post on a right wing blog.
What you're saying is "here's some guy who agrees with me!" Yes, the GOP and its hacks have been saying "sky is gonna fall again, just you watch" since the recovery took hold. Some of those hacks get quoted on CNBC. Every day.

and would not want to mislead anybody into doing something like short selling all their stock based on a volcanic eruption and a year long upswing in the stock market.
but that's just me. me, i worry that people might listen to me and do what i say and don't want them to do something stupid just because i said so.

As long as it does not affect oil and general commerce they will take it in stride. Airline stocks are already in the dumper.

|
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 06:40 PM by Lyric
(ie., that the volcanic ash spews thickly enough and for long enough to affect European agriculture) then yes, there could be a collapse of the European economy. Of course, that would be great for certain parts of *our* economy (there would suddenly be enormous demand for imported produce, and I'm sure our farmers would try to get in on some of that action) but it could also mean a rise in prices for American produce. After all, we'd be competing against European buyers for some of our produce.
Of course, all of this is HIGHLY unlikely. The current eruption really isn't big enough to do much damage. But if another one erupts at the same time, or if this one suddenly gets REALLY powerful, then maybe...maybe...we'd have a problem. And even then, not likely.
Either way, there's not much we can do about it. Mother nature is notoriously unpredictable about these things.

Maybe we could use boats to lay cable across the oceans, and send messages that way? We could send a lot of messages over the wire with maybe some simple encoding, maybe long and short pauses between electric clicks?
