Former President Bill Clinton has seen congressional elections where Republicans dominate. But he says this year is no 1994.

The two-term Democratic president says he expects Republicans will make some election gains this fall. But he says Democrats will not lose the House or the Senate, as they did in 1994.

He tells ABC's "This Week" that the economics bill passed in his first term helped a lot, but voters didn't realize its benefits at first.

Any major "victory" by the Republicans this year will be more a result of our voters NOT getting out to vote rather than any renewed love for the Republican Party and/or the desire for another Republican majority- if it happens it will almost surely be corrected in 2012. IMHO the Democrats need to keep its members mobilized and voting in every election against the Republicans instead of just when the Republicans are in power. Republicans- whether in power or out of it- always seem to be able to keep their people mobilized and voting against Democrats in every election. Why can't we do the same with our members? Democrats seem to tend towards apathy when in power but we really need to get ourselves out of that routine and make sure that we're as energized as the Republicans in EVERY election (maybe even moreso since we also have to contend with their enablers- corporate media).

They turned out for Obama in 2008 but many of them seem to have since been snookered again by the Republicans (with the help of the corporate media whores) and their lies about President Obama being a radical "Socialist" and that he has been busy raising taxes on them and ballooning the deficit, etc. :banghead:

How do you reason with such hopelessly gullible individuals???? It's like for one brief shining moment, they saw the light and realized that electing McCain/Palin would be a continuation of the previous 8 disastrous years of Bushco(and maybe even worse) but now they somehow think electing more Republicans to Congress (and ensuring MORE obstructionism/gridlock and LESS bipartisanship- which many of them CLAIM to abhor) is suddenly the answer to all of our problems, particularly when the Republicans aren't even proposing any new solutions??

Economic news would be forthcoming for the next few months and a drop in the unemployment rate would be nice to put in the public consciousness. I think passing financial regulation would also help.

and it sounds like President Obama and the Dems will be going full court press on the issue (which will be great as long as they get out in front of the Republican "permanent bailout" lies and distortion) but in regards to unemployment numbers we're basically at the mercy of the job market. There's only so much control POTUS and Congress have over the hiring practices of businesses. Sure, there are policies that they can put in place that could help to be sure but what the hell would indies be thinking by putting Republicans back in charge when their policies not only put us in this mess but also have a 30-year proven track record of failure by any objective standards???? Some people/things just don't make any logical sense. :shrug:

In off year elections, they need to vote or else.
Corzine and Coakley could have won if the base came out. Even with Coakley's horrid campaign, she could have won.
If Democrats come to vote, then we could see at worse 53-54 Senate seats and 225 house seats(we could have smaller losses too).
If the Democrats stay home, then 60 seat swing in the house is going to happen and a loss of 6-7 Governorships.

I'm not normally a spellcop, but you've been griping about Geithner for months now. Obviously you've read his name a lot, and read a lot about him. And yet, somehow, in spite of all of that research, you've *never* managed to figure out how to spell his damn name.

18. Historical trends won't apply to the Humpty Dumpty Party this time

Everything about this Presidency has broken with historical trends, starting with the election of the first Black President. That wasn't a fluke and it sure as hell wasn't a historically based trend. The mold has been broken and just like Humpty Dumpty, the GOP isn't going to be put back together again any time soon.

I simply don't see how the Republicans can gain any seats at all. They've offered exactly zilch to anything whatsoever. I think they'll lose more than they'll gain. And I also think Blue dogs will lose.

The Humpty Dumpty Party is a good new name for the Republican Party.
