| 2. Former East German border guards need jobs today. And they are willing to shoot to make the wall |
|
effective. Without guards willing to shoot, the wall is useless. When the East Germans stopped shooting in 1989, the wall was useless.

Remind me, again, about the construction labor available in border states?

| 5. Those fences were to keep people in... |
|
The ones the teabaggers want are designed to keep people out.
There is quite a difference.
People will risk death to get IN to the United States.
People were risking death to get OUT of places like East Germany and the Soviet Union.
Communist countries didn't have much to offer to potential immigrants as their economies kinda sucked.
I agree the idea of a fence is stupid and a waste of money, but at least ours isn't designed to keep Americans from trying to escape.

The teabaggers - champions of liberty and freedom are ready, willing and able to throw out the fourth amendment. They are giddy at the thought of ordinary beat cops stopping anyone and everyone they want and demanding to see their proof of citizenship.
So here's what I want to know. Since most of these folks won't want to carry around a passport (they have chips in them you know) should the cops accept a state issued birth certificate - or will they need to have their "long form" birth certificate? Now, if they don't have their original handwritten birth certificate, should they be dragged off of one of those secret homeland security federal internment camps they keep telling us about?

Remember, the wall and the Soviet and Warsaw pact border security were designed to keep their citizens from leaving the socialist worker's paradise. Do not recall stories of hundereds of thosands of people trying to sneak into the Soviet workers paradise.

| 10. The point is that wall didn't solve a problem is just treated a symptom. It kept East Germans penned |
|
up, but did nothing to change the reason that they wanted to leave in the first place.
Likewise our border wall, if it were successful, would only treat a symptom not the root cause. Walls, like those around a wealthy gated community, seem to always have the allure that they can keep the problems "out there" from coming "in here". Historically they don't work long term, plus they don't do anything about the root problem.
